So kinda off topic. My new to me Jeep has a damaged OBD2 connector. One wire is broken, and all the other terminals are so corroded, and damaged. Is there a pig tail replacement for OBD2 ports under the dash? I can't find anything anywere on line.

Thanks.

I'd imagine it'd have to be a cut and splice (or solder) from a donor car. I've never heard of these needing to be replaced.

It's a Jeep thing. I don't understand.

Yes it is a jeep thing. I would say someone got over zelus with the whole "fording water" thing. Everything works correctly, just the connector is too damaged to use.

Be careful replacing, check with the state inspection agency on the right way to do it. I fail anything that isn't even in the right spot. You never know what car is watching you.

I am just needing to replace the connector with another one so it will work correctly. The connector itself is the same for all cars. Some have additional wires, but the connector is the same. With everything availible in pigtail form, I would figure this be a given since at least once a year it is pluged into, and can get damaged if pulled wrong.

Billy, the best and simplest way to do it is get the terminal tool or use a straight pick tool, remove one terminal at a time into the new connector. Am I oversimplifying this? Is there more to it? You mentioned a broken wire? Any dealer will have that terminal new for the wire to be crimped and to go into the DLC. You may or may not need the special crimp tool for said terminal.

I'd just grab another connector and pigtail from the junkyard, depin terminals and clean them with contact cleaner, solder and heat shrink repair the damaged wire, and pin on new connector. Simple.

Like I said, I was hoping someone knew of a replacement pig tail. So off to the Junk yard I go.

Thanks guys.

LOL. If you want to hide the repair from picky inspection techs, just splice the damaged wire about 6-8 inches up and wrap it into the harness. Arrow

We have a winnah. Didn't even charge me for it. I went to Lamberts in Rochester, and the guy from Car World who takes your buck to get in now works there. Pretty cool guy.
