A spool is unbearable on the street, almost impossible...they literally lock the rear wheels together so going around corners is unbearable. My friend put one in his Mustang drag car and just had to take it out because it was such a pain to put up with!

I think something like a Detroit Truetrac is streetable.

I bought a 77 c10 that I'm pretty sure was strictly used on the drag strip.

It has 4.10 gears and a mini spool. I have only taken it out on the road 2 times and both of them were nothing less than scary. The engine is a early 70's 350 with 327 heads. I'm sure there's a can in there and some other things. I bought it to be a daily driver type of thing when I need to go get parts and whatnot. But I'm kinda afraid to see what this thing is gonna be like on a highway or at higher speeds. I can barely get it into 3rd gear.

Ha, pics?

Yeah, basically you can drive with the spool, but it's mainly for going in straight lines. A lot of people don't like them because it's essentially like someone welded the diff gears in a demo derby car or something like that, it's easier to drift the vehicle dirt track style than to drive on pavement around corners.

My friend's Mustang would chirp the tires like crazy if he turned. He just removed it and is putting something else in because he wants to take the car to shows and stuff also in the summer.  He didn't even register it this year he said it was so bad.

My SS has some kind of a weird rearend in it that I haven't figured out yet. I'm starting to think it's a Detroit Locker or an Eaton locking diff like what comes in the GM trucks.  I've come to the conclusion that the only way I'll know what's in there is if I pull the cover off because I get so many different opinions from people regarding which direction the tires spin when you jack it up, if you can spin one tire by hand with the other still on the ground, etc.

Only one I've really taken so far. It came with a 54 ford stepside bed. Found the blue bed of CL.
