So for awhile now I have been trying to figure out my posi problem. When I did the disc conversion on the caprice I put Delco synthetic gear lube in the rear diff. All of the sudden the posi was not working...just lots of smoke coming from the passenger rear  Evil or Very Mad  and the pinion seal started leaking even though it was just replaced. I have read and seen many blogs and entries on the national forum on this also. So, long story short I replaced the fluid with straight 80/90 lube with no additive. Posi is hooking up awesome again and no chirping while turning. I am going to run it like this for awhile and see how it acts. Just wanted to put my experience on the forum to maybe save someone some hassle down the road. I know a bunch of guys run this in the rears with no weird effects, but I won't ever put that crap in the caprice again. FWIW

I always used what the factory recommended (including the additive)
Never a problem
Additive does make a difference.
I know there are alot of times when the factory methods can be improved upon but....
I usually stay away from synthetic BECAUSE of its tendency to leak.
Thanks for the heads up... Arrow

I'm having a similar issue. Just changed the pinion seal and there is a slow leak. I'm going to drain the synthetic fluid
and go back to the regular with additive.

I just used Valvoline 80/90 weight. I haven't put any of the additive in yet. I honestly think a whole bottle is too much. I will try half a bottle first and see how it acts. Right now it is hooking up great at WOT off the line. Just a little bit of chirping then it is all go. Twisted Evil

You still need the posi additive.

PS, your signature takes about 4 hours to load on a phone.  Wink

4 hrs? You must have a really good phone!
It takes about half a day to load on mine. And then the other half of the day to look at it  Razz
