| I've been having a devil of a time with the fleetwood lately, for some reason the power/fuel economy is dropping like a stone, as in gotten a reapeated 12mpg average with easy driving, it cant climb hills unless its 1/2 throttle, doesn't want to crank intermittently, takes a while to start when it does crank when it sits at operating temperature, the car has an unstable idle. Fuel pressure is 38psi, 45 with the regulator line pulled at idle, but the pressure drops like a stone when you apply throttle Throws codes 32 and I believe 44, Egr circuit failure and left bank lean codes intermittently, and the year old magnaflow muffler on the bank thats acting up exploded today. I really have no idea what to do, I love the car but i'm thinking it wants to join its brethren at pick and pull. I'm not sure whats the matter, the 11k mile motor came with a puff EGR valve, they have 15k on them at the moment. The opti is new, as are all plugs wires/ o2s are NTK brand, injectors are rebuilt bosch IIIs from fuel injector connection, the intake gaskets were done with all the EGR gaskets, the old motor had oddly poor fuel economy too, not sure what to do. Hard to convince people these cars are awesome when its been a money pit let down. Anybody have any ideas whats going on? The only thing I know I did wrong is overtighten the knock sensors after draining the coolant from the fresh to be swapped motor. | |

| Check for broken fuel injector wires I had a fleetwood that ran like garbage for months, replaced everything including o2 sensors. Ended up being a frayed wire to a fuel injector .
But if it's giving you a code 32 try and push on the egr diaphragm. When you press on it does the engine bog down and try to stall? If it does then the egr itself is good and you should look for clogged lines and/or passages leading to and from the egr

| The car does run worse if I press on the EGR, I'm assuming it is physically ok, it did stick slightly the first time I tried to test it, Is it possible that it could be stuck open ever so slightly? The solenoid seems to hold vacuum, I'd like to get to the bottom of the terrible idle and economy. I was thinking of perhaps capping the purge valve to see if that makes a difference. I tried plugging the HVAC lines, no change in idle, spray around the intake with carb clean, no change. What would really cause it to not be able to climb hills anymore? It sounds like fuel starvation, is 38psi at idle any clue to whats going on, thats just 5 below spec. The previous motor didn't run terribly at idle with the factory multecs, I'll check the wiring, but are there other culprits? | |

| You have cats on the car?
I would pull the egr off and clean the passages with a good carb/TB cleaner if a little carbon built up on the pintle it might not be fully closing. You can reuse the gasket if you don't tear it
If they are cheap enough I would just replace the thing, but I would definitely try cleaning first.

| Theres no cats, its got BBK headers and 2.25 inch exhaust up to the magnaflow mufflers, then out to the back. Ive heard low backpressure can cause problems with EGR operation, but the exhaust isnt that radical, or so I thought. I also looked at the injector wiring, it looks fine, no issues there, I am not sure where to go from here. Ill try taking off the EGR, we will see how it looks. | |

| And the answer is HOLY SHIT... My egr was healthy but it was FOLDED LIKE A CARD TABLE! It was literally twisted so much the pintle binds if it moves forwards at all! I know they're angled when new, Ill have to upload pics for everyone to see. Thanks everybody for the help, I'm off to get a new one and bolts as I dropped the bolts... DOH.
EDIT: for anyone interested, car runs like a dream until its thoroughly heat soaked, then it cant idle EX hunting from 300 to 700rpm when its been at temp for a while. As of the 11th replaced the intake gaskets, barely made a difference, anybody have any ideas? Are autozone replacement egr valves a bad idea?
