PostSubject: Plug Wires and Headers   Thu May 15, 2014 11:48 am

Another header noob question. Obviously, I want to keep the wires away from heat as much as I can, I'm getting a set of the valve cover mount looms to keep the wires away from the headers, but what about the boots? I've seen the socks, but those look ugly as hell. Or will a good set of wires be all I need? PS, the headers are coated, not sure if that makes a difference.

Does your car have center mount valve covers?
If it does, you should be fine with just the looms.
You just have to make sure you have as much clearance as possible & that the wires are secure in that position.
After you road test it get a visual on it to make sure nothing shifted.

Youre right...the boots are fugly & are hard to put on pre-assembled wire sets, so forget them

Yes, it does have the centerbolt covers. I'm going with these looms:

Do they COME in pink?

You'll be fine, its all about clearance & tension

If the wires CAN hit the header, they WILL...& you'll know it shortly thereafter

I have the regular over the valve cover loom set from thunder racing.
I was planning to use the factory lt1 metal boot covers on mine.
I have only had a problem once with wires vs headers and it's because I bought super long wires and tried using zip ties to hold them out of the way Surprised

One more question. Call me paranoid, but I want to get a decent set of wires too. What are some options in 7 or 8mm that can stand up to headers?

I use MSD...but I pay to much for things sometimes. Surprised

I've heard Taylor are good & at a cheaper price

Any modern good quality wire will be fine as long as you route & secure properly.

I ended up going with some MSD's. I read mixed things on the Taylors, but the MSD's I looked up were pretty well received. $40 for the set too.

I have a set of Accels on my truck, they are likely 15+ years old and still work perfect.

You wont be disappointed
I tried to blame them one time (& even cannibalized one to prove it)...wasnt the wire
Did I mention proper routing & securing 10X yet?... Cool
