PostSubject: Overdue introduction!   Sat Feb 08, 2014 10:04 am

Howdie, fellow BadaSSers!

I posted here back in December looking for parts for my '96 DGGM, but never saw the reply to my posting asking me to introduce myself until now (that I'm back here again looking for parts)!

So - a little about me: My name is Matt and I'm from Concord NH. I've owned my '96 since January of '98 when I bought it used with just over 11K on it. At the time, it was my daily driver for almost two years until my very first car - a '77 Buick Electra - came back from the dead. I started driving the Electra as my daily driver, and the SS became one of my "pleasure cars," as the insurance companies like to call them (the other boat is a '72 Caprice with 24K original miles). The SS remained a sunny day car for years until the birth of my son in May of 2012. At that time, I was driving a rusty (but trusty) '86 Buick Century. I really didn't want to cart the new lad around in the Buick, and there really wasn't much that I wanted to take a car payment for, so I made the decision to start driving the SS as a daily driver again. Why not, it's big, beautiful, fast, and fun as hell!

So with just over 39K on the car, I started driving it again. Shortly thereafter, a family member decided to back up their full-size Chevy truck without checking the mirror while I was parked behind them. Took out the hood, grille, and other assorted front-end parts. That was repair number 1.

Fast forward almost one year later, and I'm on 93 north in Salem NH headed home from seeing Dita Von Teese in Boston with my (insanely drunk) buddy. Out of the blue, while my cruise was set at 72, he says "I'm going to put your car in reverse." and before I could even process what he said - he proceeds to do so. The road was wet, so the rear wheels immediately locked up, causing the car to fishtail and spin as if we were on ice. The rear end bounced off the jersey barrier, we spun twice, then smashed head-on into a guard rail in the median. Miraculously, nobody else was on the road at the time, and we both walked away without a scratch (I would have liked to have inflicted some serious scratches on my buddy, but I was in shock). So that was repair number 2 that initially brought me here in search of parts that the body shop couldn't find on their own. As of the writing of this intro, they are still working on the car, and the aftermarket fenders that they bought are complete crap, so I'm here once again looking for more parts!

Thanks to anyone that reads this, and the moral of the story is - keep your drunkass friends in the backseat.

Matt, welcome to the forum!

In addition to sharing the same first name I also have a DGGM and a 71-76 B-body (my 74 Impala). I hope you get this thing squared away soon!

If ANYONE did that to my car, btw, I would immediately beat the shit out of them, drunk or not! I don't care who! I'm sure they feel bad about what happened though...lol.

Oh great another Matt! This is going to get confusing as hell...

Welcome! Sounds like your poor car got a little beat! Fix it up and go back to pleasure driving it, sounds like too much of a low mile car in the best color to abuse with the road salt in winter! Even after all the repair work.

Oh, and BTW, if anyone did that my Caprice, no one would find any part of the body... There is no way I would be friends with anyone after they did that.

Do we have more Matt's than Bill's now? Man, I hope so... That was totally not right.

HA! Awesome to meet all you guys (especially the Matts)! I thought that I would get e-mail notifications of new posts on this forum like I do on the ImpalaSS forum, but I guess I haven't set that up yet.

So yeah - my "buddy" is lucky to be alive...but there's a long and storied history between us that is the reason for that. Anyone else would have wound up in the middle of 93 South...

adding to the drunk stories one of my ex-buddies tossed cookies in my front door pocket in my 1994 SS. On the ride home from a bar night he said "I think I have to......." Yup inside my car. I nearly killed him. My 94 had only 23k and was immaculate. That was untill an off-duty drunk police officer decided to t-bone my baby putting her into the scrap bin.
