Strange question:
Took the timing cover off the 96 lt-1 to replace seals, when I pulled it off and knocked out the 3 front seals I found a circular spring fell out with the seals/gaskets its very tightly wound and thin making a complete circles about a 1 1/2" diameter maybe. at first I thought it was an o-ring. It's definitely a spring, very delicate.
Any idea what the HELL this thing is/goes to?

Will try for pics tomorrow if no one knows what Im talking about.

The water pump seal on my Camaro had a small spring inside of it. It's unlike the teflon seals that all my other cars have/had. It's a bit smaller than that though. I always assumed this was an early version of the seal since this car had low mileage.

So it's probably just a part of one of the bigger front seals?
Id believe that. I kinda sorta had to man handle those seals to get them to come out.

Now I remember where I seen that similar type of seal before with springs, valve stem seals http://www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk/images/uploads/stemseal.jpg

It sounds like one of the front seals, either opti or the crank one.

They often use springs to maintain the shape of the seal

It would be easy to determine by looking at the replacement out of the kit?
