Just read this. Pretty impressive I'd say. CR is usually really hard on American car makers and I believe it said this is the first time in over 20 years an American car topped this segment.
Recently, GM has been putting out some impressive products. Make me wish I could afford one!

| Seems to be an issue with an overly optimistic OLM causing folks to go too long between oil changes. Wouldn't a software fix be in order? | |

Yeah they tried that already (actually a recall on a lot of them for a reflash), it hasn't helped anything. That's ok because the newer Eco-tec's are doing it also. Pretty sure you can't make a timing chain that's 4 feet long, smaller than a bicycle chain, and expect it to survive. That, and GM feels it's ok to have oil change intervals @ 5k plus miles

| 5k mile oil change intervals? Thats it?
Hondas have had 7500 mile oil change intervals going back 20 years. I take it easy on my 1992 Accord and change the oil every 5k, it does have 246k miles. lol. I think Honda recommends 10k on their new models.

They WILL goop up if you push them to those high intervals. My Toyota powered "turd" has 237k on it, still squeaky clean inside. It is what it is......

| Way to make a come back GM. The very reason I stay away from ford, and nissan. Piss poor timing chain design. Now GM is on that band wagon.
And when you say "New eco-techs" I assume mine is considered older, and is ok. Should I start looking at something besides GM? I really am not impressed with any other manufacturer.

| I read this a few days ago and was very, very surprised considering the history of that magazine, along with Car and Driver, etc.
I'm still surprised that in some comparos, they rated the Avalon as high as they did because it, and the Camry, are honestly not very good looking vehicles. I don't think a Camry has actually been a good looking car since the early 1990s.
I love the new Impala as a car. I just like the styling overall, it's a "car"...I don't know how to put it. Probably like when I took my old one through the car wash in 2002 or so and some older guy was like "Yah, this cah...this cah's a cah..." I do worry about the 3.6 hearing what I have though. Time will tell. The good thing is, the reputation of the Impala name is damaged ever since the Wimpala came out. They depreciate like mad and it's going to take some time for the car to build a new rep if this one is any good. So, it's likely that in a few years, after knowing what the deal is with the '14 Impala as far as reliability is concerned, you might be able to get a really good deal on a gently used example...
Billy, my friend went to look at an '01 Altima yesterday and was telling me "Dude, did you know those have a timing chain? Yea so I know I'll def. be buying one of those..." I cringed silently on the phone...haha.

| The new impalas are nice don't get me wrong but I'd still take a 94-96 as all day any day. | |

| Looking over on the Lambda and Camaro5 forums, most owners seem to indicate a subsiding of the issue in 2010 and newer models, which seems to coincide with a new supplier of chains.
Not sure how true that is or if it is simply wishful thinking. Did GM issue an extended warranty for these?

| F it, i told Heidi her next ride is a new Fusion. I hate using the F word, but its a nice car, good mileage, and the dealer is right down the road. Gotta drive 15 miles to the gm dealer, and thats along ride home after the pounding they give you for service. | |
