PostSubject: NEW INFORMATION FROM BF GOODRICH 255/50/17 KDWS   NEW INFORMATION FROM BF GOODRICH 255/50/17 KDWS EmptyFri Jul 26, 2013 4:28 pm

I have been in talks with folks at BF Goodrich who have influence on production about the catch 22 that we are all in with the original tires for the SS. They wont do a run of these because they don't have enough back orders and we wont order and pay for a tire we may not see for 6 month-year-or ever.

They are seriously looking at doing a small run of 255/50/ZR17 tires.

If you are interested (no commitment of any kind) please say so below. I am trying to get a feel for the potential.

I refuse to buy Chinese or any other foreign tire and I hope I can convince BF Goodrich to make this run happen. I will post updates as they happen.

The KDWS has to be the WORST tire on the planet! Wink

You do know there are many far better options available, right? Suspect

The Comp T/A was bad also?

When I first got the DGGM it had KDWS on the front wheels. The car was all over the road at completely intermittent times, not all out of control but it seemed like the car was trying to wrangle the wheel out of my hands and drive itself...when I got the Nittos put on it drove great!Laughing

I will say it would be nice to have a domestic well made tire for these cars available. The BFG A/T is my favorite truck tire and those are made here (although Michelin owns them).

The Nittos are from Japan, but they are very well made tires from what I can see and ride nice, and I'll take Japan over China any day right now.

PostSubject: Success. New from BF Goodrich   NEW INFORMATION FROM BF GOODRICH 255/50/17 KDWS EmptyWed Jul 31, 2013 11:23 am

I have successfully talked BF Goodrich (Michelin really) into producing a run of 255/50/17 tires. These have not been produced since 2009. They will be produced in the Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant. They will go into production Aug 18th until the run is done. They will not tell me production total. So if you want a new set, get you orders in Starting Aug 18th.

Steve.

Steve, I don't want to be a dink,  but... Have you actually run a set of these tires? They are horrible! They're terrible in the rain, they're terrible in the dry, and they track everywhere. It's cool that you contacted them and were able to convince them to make a run, but if you get a set of these, it's not worth the effort you put into it. And you will be very disappointed. At least that's what I think.

And on top of all of that, I wouldn't be surprised if these ended up being the most expensive tires in that size. They're just plain not worth it.

I have run these. I also ran the Comp T/A tires. I currently have KDWS on the front that are very near the wear bar. I have comp T/A on the back. I have a brand new set of Comp T/A tires that will replace the fronts.

My understanding is that the size of the tire in conjunction with the width of the axle is more of the issue than the design of the tire itself.

When I put the Comp T/A's on the front I will see if there is a difference but I dont remember things getting any worse when I put the KDWS on the fronts, but that was a while ago.

I did this for those that have been looking to replace their tires with originals.

My car tracks slightly with the Nittos, but it's not really "bad", kind of more along the lines of if the road surface is a POS, the car is going to let you know that. When it had the BFGs on it before it would be going straight and then all of a sudden take me into the breakdown lane...Laughing  Those came off quick and I put my old school Radial T/As on it until I got some new tires for the SS wheels.

That's kinda cool you were able to get them to do that either way, regardless of what people think of these tires. If only someone could do that with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s. Laughing

I was thinking of trying these next time around but they are a little more than others. I haven't had any real problems with tracking and wide tires. My alignment guy does a good job, doesn't charge me much, and has never steered me wrong.
