| I am trying to figure out if the axillary fan is supposed to come on when the A/C is on. My mechanic buddy tells me that it should but I dont believe so. He had the A/C gauges hook up and jumped the fan to come on. The upper pressures dropped when the second fan came on.
So my question is: Does anyone have both fans come on when the A/C is on Max? Or do I just get the smaller primary fan?
I know the second fan is set to come on when the engine temp gets to a certain point.
Thanks! | |

| Ok, I just checked for you.
My AC on max, engine running, BOTH fans are on.

| The problem is that on the National forum they are saying that the second fan is only supposed to come on when the upper pressure in the A/C system hits a certain point.
The factory manual is hard to understand when it comes to the second fan, but it seems to confirm that the second fan should not come on until a certain point.
With a cold motor just started and the A/C switched to Max the system should not be built yet to high pressure yet. So that would indicate that the second fan would not be on.
So what I would need to know if the second fan is on with the engine just started.

| Ok, what I've got is a semi warned up engine.
I just started it with AC on max.
Both fans on.
I turned AC off and the drivers side fan slowed to a stop.
FWI there's no "smaller fan". They're the same size and because of that, one is canted lower.

| I have a very original 95 Impala SS. The fans are different sizes. V03 option code. The primary fan on the passenger side is smaller. This is correct. | |

| Strange... I have VO3 too.
Not sure what very original has to do with it. I rarely see anyone install aftermarket fans if that's what you mean.

| According to my factory manuals the fans are two different sizes on the V03.
I see yours is a Caprice police. They may have had different fans.

| My FSM says your FSM is full of shit.
The only difference is motors. VO3 cars had a 150w and 240w respectively for the 2 fans.
Base models were 150w and 100w.
VO8 is 1 electric fan, one mechanical.
I think you're confused by the fan on the passenger side mounted lower in front of the AC pump. Looks smaller.

| Perhaps I did not use the correct terminology. What I was referring to was the motors size, no the physical size. | |

| Aha! There it is.
In that case, then you are correct, just as the FSM states the differences for the various RPO codes.
