PostSubject: Chevy Volt   Wed Jul 17, 2013 3:32 pm

Guy at work bought a Chevy Volt. Traded in his old Prius for it. I sat in it and I gotta say, its a nice looking car. Interior is really nice and comfortable. A lot of people I know who are really down on American cars have high praise for it. Only guy at work who has outspoken negative views on the Volt drives a Leaf and a Porsche.

But in any event all the folks I know who want a fuel efficient car really like it and tell me they would prefer it over their Prius. It kinda shows how many car buyers want to buy American but still for some reason do not. Looking at the car, if I could afford it and really wanted a very efficient car, the Volt is what I would buy. And I would love a super efficient car, but again, it comes down to affordability.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Good one Steve. I actually like the looks of them to. With the way gas prices are going this week, my Caprice has been sitting cause I just don't want to spend the money to fill her up.

Volts are actually a nice car. They need to drop the prices down a bit but they are nice.

Personally if I were to get an efficient little car I'd get the upcoming Cruze Diesel

Very true, you can get a new Cruze diesel for under $20k I believe.

I am not trying to say the Volt is my IDEAL car, but for an EV, its a good choice.

I would be all over the new Cruze diesel. First mod would be some Duramax emblems, and a tune. lol

On a side note: I saw the 2014 Silverado down the road on my way home. They also have a 2014 Impala. Both look sweet

My father went all-in on a Volt when they were not selling well and they started offering cheap leases this past fall.

It's actually a very nice car and surprisingly big inside. I think it's a pretty sharp car for a small vehicle, and there are a lot of cool features.

Now I must also say that my father has gone on a pretty big anti-oil/anti-"The Man" kick recently, switching from oil to propane for heat and installing solar panels. With the plug-in car and the tax breaks on the panels he managed to get them down to a 10 year pay-off for investment, otherwise I think he would have kept driving his Avalon.

He has dreams of a used Tesla in a year or two, but that just sounds too awesome and pricey to keep up with

He has about a 15 mile commute to work, so he stays unplugged for a few days and burns through the gas in the tank because he has to so it won't go bad...otherwise he would be using almost no gas at all. I think he is at 87mpg for the life of the car

There has been a '14 Sierra Z71 sitting at the Moore GMC lot in Danvers for about a week or so now, it looks awesome.  I saw a Silverado on the car carrier there too. Much more angular, some will probably not like it but I think both trucks will eventually grow on people. I hated the '07 Silverados when they came out, the front nose didn't match the rest of the body in my eyes, and kind of reminded me of that weird monster truck that was running around in the 90s with the 2 human muscular arms jutting out of the front fenders, I think it was called Samson? lol.

I've seen probably 10-15 of those new Impalas now too.  I have to say, while the crease in the body line near the rear doors throws me off a little, overall it's a pretty sharp car.  They definitely used a little of the 91-96 Caprice styling in the rear of the car too, but it's much less bulbous.  It's got the long hood, short deck, three-box format for sure, instead of something that looks like a doctor is going to insert it where the sun don't shine...

Anyway, I was going to say I really wish diesel powerplants were more prevalent here.  Last year I went to Ireland, and I swear 70 percent of the cars were rolling coal over there, lol.  They even had Chrysler 300s, Dodge Nitros, XJ Cherokees, and I saw a Ford Super Duty as well a couple of US-derived rat rods/kustoms driving around.

The diesel VW Golf we rented was consistently pulling 60+ MPG.  The diesel Focus the other guys had was doing pretty well also.  And they didn't make a ton of smoke or diesel fumes, they ran clean...

A good practice, but even if he didn't make the effort, eventually the engine will start automatically if it hasn't been run for an extended period, regardless of battery charge, in order to use up the fuel before it spoils.

'11-'13 2500/3500 have what I call the "fixed" bumper. They made it full length instead of that STUPID half piece of chrome crap in the middle of two big a$$ body color plastic pieces. I realized the change when the landscaper I occasionally work for replaced that f-350 I got stuck with a very nice 3500 dump. No D-max though Crying or Very sad

Speaking of no diesels here, thank GM for that with the loud as balls and unreliable LF9 olds diesel and the V6 gas to diesel conversion making Americans despise the idea of them in cars! That being said I don't mind the noise pig

Very cool to know, almost like they thought of that when they designed the car geek
