BBB wish list Empty
PostSubject: BBB wish list   BBB wish list EmptyMon Jul 15, 2013 6:51 pm

Long shot request (again).

I'm looking for all the painted Impala SS items that are chrome on a Caprice.

1)Door handles (most important)
2)Lower door/fender trim (second important)
3)Wheel well arches (important, but not as important as 1 or 2)

I may have a few things for trade like FWB skirts etc.

I had a friend strip my wheel moulding's last summer. It was a bitch, the stuff was rubber like. Don't know if the chrome wheel arch's are just an application over stainless or pot metal.
But 2 coats or primer and 2 coats of paint and 3 layers of clear.. They came out phenomenal as you can not find some of these painted parts.

The question is whether or not the chrome bits are able to be sanded down enough to adhere primer and good paint.
Or if you want to keep your old parts for later factory chrome.

I actually am going to line him up to do my handles as they are chipping.
So it may be possible you can paint your parts , maybe not?

That's exactly it.

I'd like to keep all my factory "chrome" stuff.

And

I've tried the wheel well arches and rocker trim.

Trying to sand it all down is useless and I currently have 2 primer coats, 4 gloss coats and a coat or 2 of clear. Everything chips off after a while. It took a year or so, but what a waste.

I believe in the finish and integrity rely on prep. I don't see how I went wrong in all the steps. Maybe too hot out? Idk.

I'd just like factory painted parts so I don't have to destroy my last full set of chrome/stainless trim. What I have on the car now can just go in the garbage...

I'll look around and see if I still have a set of handles, I think I sold all of them, but I'm not 100% sure.

Very seldom did a car have wheel arch trim worth saving, if I was to guess you will end up piecing those together from several cars, the nice ones pretty much always come off the opposite side of a wrecked car, and the part out car wheel wells are usually pealing...

Good luck with the search, if you have the time, search out deals and be willing to buy parts single

Thanks.

I realize I'll be best satisfied collecting individual pieces.

I don't need them NOW, but once the body gets stripped for paint and dent repair, I'll put this stuff away to keep. I want to be able to put the black pieces on when I get it back.
