PostSubject: Newbie question about spindles/ hubs....   Thu Jun 27, 2013 3:56 pm

I really should know this, and I understand it is a newbie question....

anyways....I have the small bolt pattern on the front of my car (5x4.75). I want to switch to the big pattern (5x5) to accommodate the new wheels i am picking up.

Will my spindles accommodate the 5x5 rotors/ hubs or do I need to swap spindles for 9c1/ SS units as well?

Thanks.

I'm not 100% on your original question, but I would "upgrade" to the 5/8" 9C1 spindles.

What exactly is the upgrade of that spindle? just supporting the larger ball joints?

Yes. I mean, it might be a necessary upgrade for running a big lowered box. They're supposed to take more abuse.

I replaced all of mine last summer, and its not like they're super expensive. I use all moog components.

It's the spindle that's getting hard to find. But, plenty of guys part out 9C1s tho, because they're NOT an impala ss confused
And drive the f out of them.

Side note: a good shape, low mile 9C1 is gonna be the next big thing once they're all crushed or donked out. The impala ss's days are numbered.

You need new knuckles, the boxy knuckle will not accommodate the 12" bubble rotor.

I know this because I am swapping to a 1LE camaro rotor up front for that extra inch Laughing and was told by a few sources, and Bill Harper (you should know that name) was one who had posted on the other site SOMEWHERE that the knuckle swap was necessary. He is also the guy to speak to about the BJ upgrade IIRC as he has a hand in hogging out new repro LCAs to accept the big BJ. Knuckles may be available through Hamilton Chevy still.

Hope it helps
