| I alluded to this in another post, but what is a good source of honest-to-God genuine GM AC Delco parts? Is there one? I have not had to buy parts for quite a while but I am finding now with this FWB heater hose restrictor explosion issue that these cars are getting to the point where it's not easy to buy quality replacement parts, and I've been "out of the loop" for a while. Where do we get good quality stuff? I just received "genuine" (notice the quotation marks) AC Delco parts from Hamilton Chevrolet on ebay and it was cheap chinese crap that was unuseable. Where do we get good sh!t? | |

| I've been noticing the quality of some Delco stuff going downhill recently. Not NOS stuff in GM or Delco boxes, but more recently made items. About 5 years ago I got a set of Delco plug wires for my 93 K1500 Blazer, and they were made in China. After all the money I spent on them, I lost it. After that I started getting stuff like Napa Beldens and I found some company in Ohio called United Ignition Wire that uses "Packard Cable", which was GMs supplier for ignition wires on new cars for a long time I believe. They were a subsidiary of GM like Delco Moraine, AC, Delco-Remy, Harrison, etc.
I just got some new Delco wires for my Tahoe just for the hell of it, I think they were either made here or in MX. I'll have to look again. I'll go look at what all the boxes said anyway and report back.
Anyway, I've gotten some stuff from Amazon.com lately. The reviews on there often help you know what you'll be getting ahead of time...

AC Delco crap, is just that "crap" I've worked for GM as tech on and off since the 80's, and believe me I don't think anything in a GM vehicle is made in the US. Delco stuff is all made by independent contractors, GM-Delco is not GM (although GM may own them) So unless it says "made in USA" it doesn't matter what name is on the box, including GM Took this pic at work last week, Genuine GM balljoint....

| The last fuel and water pump I bought (and paid a premium for to get a delco part) were made in china. Their quality really has gone down hill a lot in the last few years. Delphi use to be their manufacturer of a lot of parts, but they dropped them at some point. Delco's chinese junk is still better than the real chinese trash the parts stores sell though. | |

| I just took a look at my pahts for the Tahoe. The air filter and fuel filter are products of USA...the plug wires are productos de Mexico. I will take some guacamole over crab rangoons this time around however. A lot of the 00-06 Suburbans (maybe all?) were built in Mexico. I'd take a Tahoe (Ahlington TX) over them for that reason pretty much...plus the Suburban quarters rot out worse. | |
