Vortec LSx Based Engines Empty
PostSubject: Vortec LSx Based Engines   Vortec LSx Based Engines EmptyWed Jul 17, 2013 6:10 pm

Website is almost ready to launch, but I thought I would put some basic info here for anyone interested in getting into the LSx engines.

I am offering engines as "swap packages" basically turn-key. Price will depend on what options you would like (and your specific wiring needs).

If you are looking for a b-body swap, and can provide me with your factory harness....I can build a plug and play setup.

All my motors are tested, and you can hear them run on my "run-stand" before you buy. Each engine comes cleaned, painted, standard gaskets replaced, ready to go.

Each engine will come with the results from a leak-down test and standard compression test. This information is much more relevant to the condition of the engine vs. an "estimated" mileage from a salvage yard.

Current inventory ready for prep....

qty-engine
(1) LQ4 6.0L
(1) LR4 4.8L
(3) LM7 5.3L

Thanks, let me know.

Just to give you guys a little more detail....

Base package is essentially truck configuration.

-Truck Pan
-Truck Accessories
-Truck Manifolds (intake and exhaust)

Any leaking or worn gaskets are replaced with all new GM components (no aftermarket).
Motors are run on the stand to operating temp then shut down to verify cylinder compression and leak-down (results provided with purchase).
Each engine is cleaned, degreased, and painted.
Fresh AC Delco oil filter, plugs and wires.
Hardware replaced with stainless socket caps
GM Harness reworked to simple 3 wire hook up (wiring options need to be discussed beforehand, otherwise default is motor control only, no emissions, no ac, no electronic trans).

Several options are available:
-New GM LS6 Springs
-New GM LS6 Style Valley Cover
-V-Band Exhaust Manifolds
-GM Muscle Car Oil Pan
-GM High Volume Oil Pump
-New GM LSA or LS9 Camshafts
-F-Body Accessory Drive (pending availability)
....and many more. I will also accept customer supplied components for installation.

This is good to know...Cool

I've been seeing more 71-76 Chevrolet with LS swaps in them (some are "donks") and it's got me wondering if an LM7 or something would just fit right in my car even with the truck setup on it.

Given the under-hood clearance of the 71-76 chassis....I think it would be 90% drop in.

The only suggestion I would make is go with the GM Muscle Car pan (which is really just the LH8 setup). I would also suggest v-banding whatever manifolds you chose to run to cut down on clearance in the area of the flanges.

Let me know if you want to get together and I could take some measurements.

I'll def. give you a shout if anything materialized on my end. With the talk of a poss. meet in W. MA soon maybe I could come by around then. I read about that oil pan, I believe they were using them on some of the cars I saw, there was something funny about the motor mounts like they lined up but got repositioned. I'll have to look again.

Soooo uhhhhh, guy!

What's the set back on such an extravagant service anyway?

Seeing as most here probably don't want to peddle away the very engine transplant car away on CL just to afford one of these, what are the figures for a BASIC turn key and go into saaaay, idk, a 96 B body!

You've generated an interest, and I don't want to pop the bubble and have the thread go dead.

I mean, I could justify one of these in the future. Certainly not tomorrow, but you are definitely on to something this community needs.

If I were to provide a turn-key package for the b-body, you would be looking at 1600-2500 for a 5.3 depending on options.

The lower end of that totem pole would get you a tested and verified motor with a brand new GM Muscle Car Pan (LH8) and compete truck front accessories. Exhaust manifolds would be cleaned up production truck units. Intake manifold would be a truck model with DBC throttle body. The wiring harness would be completely reworked with a simple 3 wire hook up. All emissions control would be removed from he PCM (off road use only of course), and a mild base tune would be loaded.

A higher end motor for example would consist of a new production GM Cam (LS9 or LSA, more optimized for boost), LS6 Valve Springs, LS6 Vented Valley Cover, V-band exhaust manifolds, plug and play harness using the factory firewall connectors and fusebox ....

Basically I can build you whatever you want, but this gives you a ball park figure. Everyones application will be a little different and the price will reflect that......depending on what I have for inventory at the time, I may even be able to do a little better...

But what it comes down to when you buy from me is there is no guess work! You don't have to cross your fingers that the motor you scored off Craigslist is good, or the engine from the salvage yard "actually" has 40k miles. You aren't buying some universal harness from a guy 1k miles away that is 20ft too long.....you are getting a quality one-off piece built around your needs and budget.

Right now I am not quoting actual swaps. I am selling turn-key packages for the do-it-yourself-er. I have no problem lending technical assistance with the conversions, but I simply have too many jobs going at the shop right now to tie up a lift with another conversion.

I am buttoning up a C6 Procharged Vette, I still have to finish a S10 Blazer swap I committed to a while back, and the newest job to drop by is a 2011 Jeep for an LSX transplant! Lots of work for a one man band!

If you aren't in a huge rush, I would be happy to quote you, but I would need way more detail then what you have provided. PM or call me with exactly what you have for parts, exactly what you need me to source, and what the end goals for the car are.

Those prices aren't bad at all if it is really a drop-in operation; I was expecting something more costly.

It'd be cool as heck to have an LS motor in my wagon; you're real close to me too, which is convenient. However I am just a cash chump for now. When I am not paying $1200-2000 per month on school for my kids then I will be in a better position.

How much more power or economy do the LS motors offer vs. the LT1?

Out of the box, a tuned 5.3 will put an honest 300 to the pavement through manifolds with a decent exhaust.

My L33 with shorty 1-5/8 headers and 4" intake tube runs 13.0 @ 106mph, and averages high teens low twenties (mpg) through the th350. Thats a 150k mile motor thats never been opened up, and I drive it extremely hard. It probably puts about 325-340 to the tires...

Not so much the 9C1.

about the same as a 5.3

A few factors contribute such as what model in comparison, but for the most part the 4.8s are in the 280-295 range stock at the flywheel. Put a mild cam in it, and it would make a fair amount over a stock 5.3.

The 4.8s really shine under boost....

Hey guys, wanted to share a few things....

First off, my display engine is basically complete. (by display engine...I mean an empty block, with empty heads and a bunch of shiny paint LOL). I have this setup to give people an idea of what they can expect when they pick-up. Everyone of my engines will have the same color scheme and layout, and this is a very nice representation.

2008 LY6 85,235 Miles
Complete motor, harness E38 PCM, TCU, pedal, manifolds.....

This motor is a GenIV 6.0L with L92/LS3 square port cylinder heads and factory 90mm intake.

I deleted the VVT and installed a brand new GM LS9 camshaft and new GM front cover. I still have to do the valve springs, but this bad boy has been stripped and is almost ready to go!

Out here you can get them for a similar price. Now consider that these are roughly 8-10 year old motors in the price range (some older) and factor in the following:

-New GM Intake Gaskets
-New GM Exhaust Manifold Gaskets
-New GM Oil Pan Gasket
-New GM Valve Cover Gaskets and Fel Pro Grommets
-New Valley Cover Gasket
-New Front and Rear Cover Gaskets and or Crank Seals
-Water Pump Gaskets

...Then after you have all the parts in hand, strip everything down, clean, degrease, primer and paint.

Reassemble and see where you are at for time and money Wink

...then move on to the wiring LOL
___________________________________________________

Im not saying that every engine will need the shopping list above, but lets be realistic....many of these engines are 100k plus miles with basic oil changes, and will require a lot of the items listed above. If they are going to be swapped into any project worth a damn, then in my opinion they should be gone through and detailed accordingly.

Does my pricing structure make a little more sense now?

Pricing seems pretty fair to me. But I like shiny toys that I can open the package and play with right away Wink

For ME, it would be an ideal "investment" for my '87 monte in the future.

Providing you're still offering such a service once I have it shipped, stripped, and modified for the swap.

LOL jk. I should have you take a look at my dealer pricing on parts and see if you think I am being treated fairly, I deal with two dealerships locally and they have done pretty good on my discount structure I think.

As for your LQ9, those things are still bringing decent money. I would bet as-is (assuming its fairly clean), you could bring close to 1500 if its complete.

The LY6 is almost done. I will have some photos of it today.

The LY6 is almost done. I will have some photos of it today.

The extra stuff I end up with is from warranty jobs, often times gaskets comes as complete kits, or from other guys in the shop.

So you have all the alignment tools for the front and rear covers, and rear main installer?

Not many people have those, or know about them.

That would fit nicely in my DCM Clone with a T56 behind it.

I have a few motors in stock right now.

2001 LM7 5.3
Suburban hit in the front
155,072 Miles

Good running clean LM7. Nice and quiet, no smoke...ready to go.

Included with the motor is the complete uncut wiring harness, MAF and PCM. Copy of the title will be supplied with the sale.

As always, you guys know the drill....if you want paint, cam, gaskets, wiring and etc...I can do it all for extra....just PM me or call/ text for details and pricing.

Accessory brackets are included, but the actual accessories (ac compressor, alternator, power steering pump) are not included and cost extra.

850.00 OBO out the door with everything
Local delivery is available, but pick-up is encouraged (Westfield, MA).

2004 LM7 5.3
GMC Yukon (interior fire)
122k miles

Nice lower mileage drop out!
10 year old engines with this type of mileage are getting hard to find.

Really nice good runner. Bone stock engine (not even a K&N drop in!). Super hard to find a low mileage unit like this lately....just take a look around!

This engine is Non-EGR however it IS drive by wire. If you are looking for a Drive by cable setup, I can swap the harness and throttle body at no additional charge.

I am looking to get 1100.00 complete from intake to pan with wiring harness, PCM, MAF, Flexplate and etc. If you want to retain the DBW, the pedal and TAC module will be included at the above price.

As always, I guarantee my engines to be in good working order, if you have a problem I will take care of you. No guess work here.

1999 4.8L LR4
199,xxx Miles Silverado

I am blowing this one out the door at 450.00 intake to pan WITH harness. I did rob the throttle body and coolant crossover from this engine, it is otherwise complete and a very good runner.

PM for details....

Wiring should be pretty straight forward. It is completely independent of the body harness.
