| Had a rough morning yesterday... On my way to my sons birthday party, I decided to take the Caprice out for a datalog. I had just put the new tune in and I wanted to see how it looked. I was comming off a light from a 5mph roll and I stood on it, the tires broke free....then the right tire LITERALLY broke free. I twisted the axle on the right side AGAIN...only this time I wasn't so lucky.... It stuffed the quarter this time really bad. It looks like the wheel came around and smashed into it before taking off the other direction about 100 yards. I had to go on a damn scavenger hunt through a swampy ditch to find my wheel and hub-caps. Absolutely blows. I have always reached about building rears for even moderate power levels....and you would think after the first axle I broke....I would have stepped up.....but lesson learned. I have always said it is cheaper to build a rear end then hand a new quarter.....guess I will find out. | |

| Oh man.
Dude, the thing to remember, is you're okay (even though you weren't going fast when it actually happened). That's all that matters.
I would honestly try to pull that out with a suction cup. It's worth a try, may take the curse out of it before the metal stretches and stays like that... I had a similar one on the door of my 88 Suburban and it worked, aside from a small crease.
It could be worse! Still sucks though.

It could be worse! Still sucks though. It seems like the whole quarter buckled a little up to the lid, it took a hard hit. The data log says 80mph when I lifted (obviously I wasn't going that fast because I was spinning off the hit, but that's the rotational speed the wheel let go at). Regardless, I have nobody to blame but myself. Just glad I saved it and kept the car out of the swamp.

| Bummer dude. But it looks fixable, at least. Besides, it doesn't need to look pretty to go fast. Get it fairly straight by redneck means and you'd be surprised how much a good paintless dent guy can do... | |

| ^Yep. I would shitcan that trim piece since it looks all done right now unless you might be able to straighten it. Then you can assess what can be done better. I used a body shop suction tool on my truck that someone I know lent me, then insisted I keep when I offered it back... It was (can't find it now) a forged and plated metal handle with a heavy duty rubber cup, and a trigger you could pull to release the suction. You've probably seen one but anyway, that kind worked the balls. Can't find a pic online. | |

| I think I am going to save up to build a rear, fix the quarter and paint the car. I have been working on my race car for the shop anyways and I would like to get it to the point where it can move under its own power. I dunno....we will see what happens. | |

| That blows but the car and you are intact which is what matters. | |

| Sorry to hear it man That BIG time sucks. But like everyone has said 1) you're ok (physically ) 2) it's all fixable. You'll be back in no time. Set up a ford 9 inch with a watts linkage style system. It's very possible. A friend of mine swapped the linkage he built for his box caddy coupe, into his '68 impala. A lot of cutting and welding, but build it once and you're golden. Golden like the showers that R Kelly takes......hmmmmm | |

| That does suck! Been there. 9 inch or C-clip eliminators (at the min aftermarket axles). The Mosers I have in my T have held up to anything I've thrown at em, 1.6 60 ft's, 28" drag radials (still c-clipped) Always think, it could have been worse, more speed, more traffic........ Watched a RH axle break on a '79 Cutlass w/a 455 at NED. It broke spinning out of the burnout box, came out still spinning with the wheel attached, went around the front of the car and caved in the drivers door! | |
