The 17" hankooks I have say max PSI is 50.

Now, given that the tires are wider (even wider in the rear), but not taller, than a stock 9C1 size tire, what is the BEST PSI for this situation?

They look pretty under inflated to me but I don't want to over inflate and trash the treads on the highway.

I usually run 35 psi in my cars. Keep an eye on the wear pattern. If they wear in the middle, lower your pressures. If they wear on the outsides, add a couple psi.

what size tires?

tire pressure depends on how you drive the car,.how tall the sidewalls are,. how much weight you're carrying,.

a tall tire will squirm under hard cornering,.

an underinflated tire runs hot,.and deflects a lot when you hit an obstacle (pothole)

tall underinflated tires break belts,. separate belts etc,..

underinflated tires use more fuel,.

underinflated tires may wear evenly,. but they will wear faster,.

on any of my 255-50-17's i run them at 40 psi minimum,.
60psi when i,m flogging the tires on a road course,.

the minivan tires are 215-65-16,.i run them at 38,.
the fancy ford has 225-60-16's,..i run them at 40.

I run my 11X24.5's at 105.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure 35psi is what I'm looking for here.

Nick, I'm running 245/45ZR17 (17x8 rim) front And 275/40ZR17 (17x9 rim) rear.
