| I'm bored, so I'd like to talk about my '87 Aerocoupe. Having the RPO code of Z16 Only 6,052 were made where as even fewer in 1986 (200). All '87 aerocoupes were made at the Pontiac, MI. plant. It was originally GM's attempt at competing with the Thunderbird in NASCAR. So, they have to build and sell so many in order for it to be a NASCAR platform. I came home from my first Iraq deployment and bought it in Mansfield, MA. at a car show back in 2007 for $4,300 from a guy in Blackstone, MA. I was really looking for a 60's/70's car and was really into a nice blue with black leather Ford Torino GT for about $6k. But it had all kinds of electrical bugs and rust. I came across a few Monte Carlo SS's and figured my dad always had one when I was growing up and he had sold his when they moved to Alabama. So what the hell, I'll try one out. I found the aerocoupe and was like WTF? Isnt this rare or something? When I got the car, it had a little over 73k miles on it, power windows, a rejection sticker, functioning steel Goodmark 2" cowl hood, and an ugly staggered tire/wheel setup. But it has a power moon roof I found strange and unique. The car's 305 H.O. engine ran like garbage with alot of unburned fuel evident of the aftermarket carter AFB carb on it. No wonder it didnt pass inspection(back then). The computer had no control. Check engine light on equals rejection sticker. Right away I went to autozone and got a re manned Rochester Quadrajet, drove around for a few days to tune it with the help of a weirdo mechanic guy I consulted with on a whim, and it passed inspection on the second go around. I had it shipped out to California for $1200 where I was stationed in the desert so no rust issues. When it arrived I brought it to the tire shop, ordered what was then a 15x7 black AMR 767 steel wheel with the D pattern and center caps with new white letter BFG's. Not long after I did a simple stereo upgrade and flowmaster exhaust. Every Sunday I took out $20 from the bank, got my hair cut, lunch and hand washed the Monte. During my last deployment I ordered a bunch of stuff from Mikes Montes and Dixie Monte Carlo online. Before I deployed that second time, I had it shipped to the 'rents house in southern AL where it sleeps in their barn. All the parts were shipped there. When I came "home" I bought my 96 9C1 in Cali, drove to AL. Thats where I installed a new front fascia lip, rear springs, shocks, new dash, new center console, deleted the A/C as its out dated and I dont plan on using it, full tune up/timing, brake lines etc. For all my good pics from years ago I need to pull the hard drive from my old computer. So stay tuned. All I have is newer pics. Its been on pause since 2009 when I moved back up here, got married, had my first child, and doesn't look like I'll be touching it anytime soon. My LDM currently has the original plates from it. ***BTW currently looking for a dual snorkel 5.0 air cleaner*** Future plans include a built trans for a simple GMPP ZZ4 turn key crate engine (or similar), interior make over, rear discs, lowered suspension, and delete anything from the car that isn't entirely necessary(less things to break that cant be replaced in the future ie R12 A/C) But that's how I want to build it. Im sure the first thing some here would want to do is an lsx swap, t56, 9" rear etc. Its not a race car folks, its a family Sunday cruise mobile. Currently has 83xxx miles

That's what aero coupe windows are at now too. Saw a 78 at Jacks and the only window that was smashed was the back window. Big surprise right? What a shame.

| Nice Monte, Brian. Also noticed an elusive 2wd blazer in the background. You mind if I grab the disk rear and front brakes out of it for my S10 project? lol. The good part about wanting to do things to your car is the fact that you actually own the car in the first place. I've been planning to do a bunch of work to my buick for about 10 years now. I'll get to it sooner or later. | |

| I will look through my piles of old parts in the spring, if you still don't have that dual snorkel air cleaner. Pretty sure I can find one of the several that I made up by brazing on an extra snout salvaged from another single. Every car I owned got one of those in order to maintain an abundance of incoming air both clean and cool. There was a time when I glommed every OEM oval plastic flex inlet extension hose & front fender air pipe connector. I ALWAYS loved the look of OEM dual hoses running from the air cleaner to both front fender cold air inlets. The thing is, I always sealed off the hot-air stove pipe mechanisms in those snorkels, and removed the doors inside. | |

| I say keep the HO 305, if that's the original motor it will be worth more numbers matching. Not everything needs an LS or LT1.. Besides who gives a flying F**k if you have 400hp to go 80 mph from a red light to a red light. Low n' slow man.... Cruise and enjoy the scenery. Ben will enjoy not having whiplash | |

Yea thats my fathers Blazer. He is very meticulous while owning it. I bet you wouldnt find a cleaner, more well taken care of Blazer out there. 4wd wasnt really important as they never get snow there. It is nice actually owning your own cars. Every car Ive ever owned I paid for with cash. Thats why Im in no hurry to start messing with the Monte Carlo again. Its not going anywhere.

Thanks! I will let you know. Its an ice OEM touch if the engine didnt already com equipped with it. Plus instead of sucking in all the hot air from the exhaust manifold, there would be 2 nice "cold air" induction points behind the nose.

Maybe at a club meet with the 9C1, spinning tires in a parking lot near a lady walking a dog . It may be fun to take a car to the track every now and again, but its just not the goal of this car. A nice OEM style turn key small block is about all it needs to cruise IMO. Plus keeping it carbed, no computer, would make it pretty simple stupid. Eh, we'll see.

Yes they do. In fact I put the dual piston caliper and 1 inch larger rotor brakes from a 98 to 04 2wd S10 blazer in my T Type complete with spindles and all and it bolted right in. The difference in braking is incredible.

| It hasn't exactly "left the building".
I signed it over to my father in Alabama. He's always had monte Carlos from the time I was born until they moved in 2005 when he sold his last '87. Which was wrecked shortly after by my last girlfriend...
Anyway. It's been unregistered since October 2009.
It's been maintained and driven around the yard. And he's replaced a lot of the short lived items. Brake lines fuel lines etc. He just replaced all the vacuum lines and routed them where they were supposed to go. I guess it runs perfect now...
But, I figured its sat long enough.
I'll get it back someday...

| Yes, this car still exists. It's been almost 4 years since I've driven or even seen it in person.
It does however, hold the record for the vehicle I've owned the longest.(2007-2012)
I "gifted" the title to my old man so he can keep it in motion and keep up regular maintenance stuff.
The wife and I are going on vacation to Alabama June/July to see my parents and so they can meet their first grandchild.
Since the Monte is registered and insured once again, it will be fun to rip around town in it again.
Parts request from the old man include:
•CORRECT fan shroud •Air cleaner snorkel •Guage cluster clear plastic cover
I know a yard near me that has about a dozen 83-88 Montes. Hopefully, I won't get lost in the tall grass pulling parts!
