I want an Outback

Just picked up my brothers Outback tonight since he was working. This thing is loaded to the tits. 6 cyl, LL Bean package, power everything. But holy effin balls does that car drive nice. Handles like a charm, snow was childs play for it. I now also have the sudden urge to shop at Trader Joes and put on Melissa Ethridge. Crovo, is that a side effect of Subaru ownership? Laughing

I'm getting tempted to trade Laura's Legacy in for a fully loaded Outback because she wants a wagon again... I am not having any luck convincing her to drive a B body...

Funny you say that Doug, cuz I think Keri-Lyn is going to end up in a newer Outback also. Gonna need awd for the new driveway and she's leaning that way. I hope she doesn't steal all my flannel shirts, too....

I drove a WRX 6-speed wagon once... like I stole it. It was cool. But Subaru styling is just BLAH to me. Exteriors are ugly. Interiors are boring. The only thing I like is the crazy exhaust note the flat 4 makes.

And I'm not a fan of the 2.0 wrx's. They are fun on boost, but driving it normal? Sucks. There is NO power off boost. It's just a low compression, low power, small 4 banger at that point. Just driving backroads at like 35mph, it doesn't have the torque for 5th gear, 4th either. I have to be in 3rd gear to drive backroads normally? Really? Boo.

But the 2.5 turbos are better.

I have to agree, to an extent. The 2.0 has no boost down low, but intake an exhaust wakes it up more than you would believe. I drive "back roads" to work and back every day and am regularly in 5th at 45 MPH. Best thing about it is great mileage without the boost, but it's there when I need to fly.

It's only the Legacy 2.5 turbos that are really tbe problem, stock. They were assembled in the US and got main and rod bearings that were more wear prone that the ones assembled in Japan (Foresters and WRX's). Something about a lower nickel content or something.

But start cranking up the boost on ANY of them, and all bets are off. You'll be blowing ring lands apart. Start saving for forged pistons and a rebuild as soon as you start modding... Wink
