| LOL So much for the Monte. Nice Outback. Did it come with a Melissa Ethridge CD and a golden retriever? But seriously, nice cah. My fathers buddy had one. Made it 275k before the 2nd clutch went and he went and bought another. Currently at 186k with no end in sight. | |

| My friend bought one of those things, the non-Outback version, for like 300 bucks on CL about 5 years ago, maybe 6. The car had rot in the rear wheel arches and needed a trans, he installed it in his driveway, and drove the thing everywhere up until a couple years back while keeping his BMW parked. He went to Maine Maritime and was also working on ships so he'd leave the damned car in places like Philly or NY and come back to find it still untouched, lol. He also purposely took it out in the woods, bottoming it out over boulders, and dragging a whole truck rearend behind it just to mess around...if I find the pics of it I'll post them. The car never died, and he sold it to someone else who I think still drives the damned car! I used to drive one too, a guy I worked for had a white Outback and I ran some errands with it. It was a good car, but wound up needing the whole engine replaced, twice! I kind of feel like it might not have been a 2.5 engine though? It was the same exact car inside and out, just white instead of blue. | |

| Yup, I'm a lezzy trapped inside a man's body... Yeah, so uh... It only took 44 miles for the check engine light to come on. Knock sensor. Shocker. It was gonna be either that or the o2 sensor. | |

| Nocones is so wrong on that LOL. I've always liked leggys, my buddy John blew up his 2.5 at 197k and swapped in a 2.2, I guess it was MUCH cheaper and a much more reliable engine.. | |

| Yeah, so I'm pretty sure that either the car doesn't like the plate choice or it's already living up to it... I went to see Al for an oil change and state inspection. All went well. Cool. No problem. Swapped out a light bulb that was burnt, but NBD, right? Right. Al then brought it around the front of the shop, locked it, and came in. Did you catch what went wrong? Yup. He locked it. And it has a security system that arms when you lock the door. And EYE don't yet have the transmitter/key fobs to disarm it. Yeah, that. So then we proceeded to spend an hour and a half in the cold trying to disconnect the battery to reset it and took half the damn dash apart. I finally got it going though, but it's still going off when the module is plugged back in. Eff. Epic alarm fail. lol. Oh well, I guess I has some googling to do... After the fact: Me: Hey Al, don't lock it. Al: Once again! Information that would have been useful to me an HOUR ago!!!! lol Effin subaru. | |

| That sucks man. I've dealt with that crap before but not as troubling. The Tahoe has a system with remote start installed that I need to get a new fob for, but I'm afraid an alarm place will just try to sell me a whole new system.
Hope you get it sorted! | |

| It was actually an easy fix. More googling got me the answer. All I had to do was cycle the ignition 3 times. lol. Oh, and this. | |

It may. But I set the trip when I bought it, not when I filled it. I haven't filled the tank yet. I've got that mileage out of just over half a tank...

Interesting. My 05 had the most comfortable seats I've had in a car. But those seats are apples to oranges here. The seats in this 99 are just typical 90's import cloth buckets.

Half a tank...Um...let me just take that last comment back now. Glad you found your mileage beater, even if it is a Subaru. Still happy the club prez isn't driving a forester though!

You know you just admitted that on a public forum? What could be gayer than an Outback? I mean, really? (Besides a Miata, of course ) So I fixed the rear gate issue today. Got it open and lubed the hell out of her latch. LATCH! I said LATCH! And then I replaced the knock sensor, a worn fuel line that looked like a squirrel had nibbled on, adjusted teh e-brake and replaced the air filter. I also got a pair of used factory fogs to replace the busted one and might swap it out tonight. So it's like a fully functioning car right now! Woot!!!! Let's hope it stays that way.

| So... Passed inspection yesterday. Knock sensor replacement fixed the CEL and it's running and driving great. Drove awesome in the 6" of unplowed snow on the highway on Thursday, too. Everyone was going like 20-25MPH and I was driving comfortably at 45-50, forcing myself to slow down. I this car. | |
