Who's a good exhaust place north of Boston? I went to Bay State they told me I needed two new mufflers and hanger etc. etc. =$475 WTF. I was under the impression that I could get rid of the middle mufflers and run straight back to the last mufflers. Suggestions would be appreciated? Could I do this myself? I feel like the second option would be less expensive.

You can do anything you like....just some things will be MUCH louder then others.

I'd actually RECOMMEND you do it yourself, that way your not fully committed until your happy.

Once you find what you like, go have a shop throw a couple of welds on it to keep it in place.

Wish I knew a good shop, they come & go.....I'm still running around with clamps on mine.

Either buy a kit, or have Lou's exhaust do it.

Whenever I do any exhaust work, I always use stainless band clamps instead of welding. They seal well and allow you to remove components easily in the future since the pipes aren't fused or crushed together. It makes working on the exhaust, which sucks balls in the Northeast and also if you don't have a lift, less aggravating.

Thanks guys. I'm going to take a look and see what I am going to need and take it from there. I'm under the impression that I can just get rid of those middle mufflers. Is that correct? The rears are still "good", other than that a lot of rusted hangers.

Yes, you can do the "muffler delete" but bear in mind that the rear mufflers are actually only resonators, so it will be VERY loud. Now, I'm a guy that loves loud cars, but I've never heard a muffler delete B or D that sounded good. It's like running a very small ID glasspack, very raspy, very poppy, very constrained sounding, very redneck truckish, if you know what I mean. It's tough to explain. If you like that sort of thing, then go for it though! Smile

^This.

Used two of them on my exhaust this summer. Well worth the slight added cost.

Also, my $0.02, just do your exhaust yourself. Rockauto carries all the needed components, they're not very expensive plus it gives you the ability to find mufflers you like instead of relying on the shop.

I spent a couple of hours on my back trying to patch the old mufflers, still bubbly, so I order a couple off of advance autoparts. I appreciate the 411 of you'all. All the other pipes look to be in decent shape so mufflers should do the trick. Now to get full heat and AC...............

Since the stock pipes are crushed onto the mufflers, getting them off might suck. Use a cutoff tool to make relief cuts in a few sections of the crushed part of the pipe. Use the band clamps on the new muffler, with some exhaust sealer.

Good luck. I hate exhaust work.

In the past I have ground the OEM mufflers off the intermediate pipes. It takes a lot of time but there will be enough pipe to clamp an 2-1/4" extension pipe. Next is a cheapo 2-1/4" turbo muffer, a 2-1/4" to 2" adapter to the rear pipe. A ton o' clamps and a universal hanger cut short as possible. Used to be I could do this for about $60.
