| We built a club race car?
I am just throwing this out there....and I am sure it is a long shot....
BUT
....what if we all worked together to build a race chassis to compete in the ECIRS and Heavy Chevy shoot-out style races? Something budget oriented well built that we all could put some wrench and seat time into?
I know right off the bat, it sounds intimidating in the sense of who would have ownership....but I think we are all grown up enough to choose and maintain a responsibility on the car. We could rotate drivers at each event to guarantee seat time....and get some more members into racing who would normally be concerned about breaking their daily driver and etc! I think it would be a great way to get some more faces at the races.
What do you guys think? Could we make it work?

| Yea I hear ya guys. I was hoping more then less that we could kinda establish a junkyard competer on the dirt cheap side between the parts I am sure we all have laying around.
On a side note, Just read this: http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=277113
Apparanetly ECIRS is allowing ALL year Impalas/ Caprices next year. Looks like I can try and make some waves.

| I like the idea. If everyone was to contribute to a dual purpose car that could be consistent on the 1/4, and flat on the curves, it would be cool. It could be done. Someone would have to put up a car. Even if it is a rolling chassis and shell. Then someone else might have a drive train, and maybe someone else has some suspension pieces, someone with some old slicks, someone with some sticky rubber, and so on. Then get someone to drive. I think an 9C1, or woody Caprice would be cool. Satin black or painted like a black and white police car with one big BADASS Iron Cross on the roof. I have a set of lace wheels I could donate. | |

| ~ * ~ The dual purpose suggestion is very interesting, but it immediately brings my first concern to light.
Although conceptually I like this idea, consider that if we are building something to be competitive, then building a dual purpose vehicle stacks it against us due to the inevitable design compromises.
However, the biggest hurdle will be how to select whose ideas will be implemented when there are multiple possible solutions put out there. Perhaps this could be approached by establishing a process whereby guidelines should be set down as to how everyone's input should be addressed, considered and voted upon so that no one is left feeling insulted when their heartfelt suggestion fails to be recognized and its merits be comparatively evaluated.
If it turns out to be fun for all who choose to participate, and the probability for pissing contests to rear their ugly heads has been procedurally precluded by a mutually agreed process of fairness, then I might be persuaded to offer up one of several late 80s box 9C1s sitting here. I would have a slim chance at direct personal involvement in the fabricating due to the physical distance from most of y'all. The reality is, I would be making my usual boring & long-winded posts pushing my own views regarding every power train decision along the way, as many of you might suspect.
As for how much it would cost, don't automagically assume that all high performance enhancing endeavors will be solved best by throwing cubic money at the project. GM has provided quite a lot of interesting interchangeability possibilities simply by allowing us to use relatively cheap old parts to achieve very high performance results, you just have to be patient and examine the potential within these combinations. The goal should not be to wind up with a glitzy show piece incorporating every high dollar, chromed out "trick-of-the-week" item in this month's Hot Rod magazine.
For this to work, I propose that somebody, who could effortlessly keep their ego in check in order to primarily serve, first & foremost, the sought after joy of sweat equity that everyone contributing expects and deserves, might be elected to oversee the continuity of preserving these goals for all of us.

| As somebody whose built a race car with joint ownership, my .02 cents would be this is a recipe for disaster.
People tend to like having control over that they spend their money on.... What may start out all happy-happy-joy-joy can end quickly in two or more people not being friends anymore...
Sorry to be debbie downer; just an imo.

Sorry to be debbie downer; just an imo. Yup, this is what is bound to happen, I have seen it happen many times on projects with only 2 people, never-mind 10. It sucks, but it's true. Doug

Thanks for being honest everyone. Just a nice idea, but I certainly seeing it be more pipe-dream oriented.

Lulz! I'm sure Crovo would love that. Ever since I snagged that bracket racing trophy out from under him at WagonFest a few years ago, he's certainly been stewing about a chance to get revenge. I think I'll hafta quit drag racing while I'm ahead lol. -- Build a BADASS Lemons car though, and I'm all over it
