If you mean 275/40s with a drop, you might be asking for trouble. I lowered my ss years ago with Eibach springs and stock size 255/50s, and I think it lowered it 1.5 inches. It was almost too much as the tail pipes kept scraping, and even the tank had some marks on it. Now you are talking taking 3/4"-1" inch out of the tire from the rim to tread as 275/40s are about 1 1/2"-2" inches smaller in diameter depending on manufacturer This would bring you damn near three inches lower. Yes the tires would tuck nice, but drivability on anything other than flat road surfaces would suffer here in new england. Infact since that, I will only put Impala ss springs on any b-body, and would not go any lower myself. This is just my opinion based on my experiences. And if you are talking about another size tire, please disregard these ramblings. Try tirerack.com Or locally Townfair tire. I useually print off a quote from tirerack with shipping charges and bring it into townfair tire. And they beat it by 5%, and no waiting for shipping, and you have somewhere to go to locally if there is problems. Plus they offer many free services if you buy your tires there. http://www.tirerack.com/index_w.jsphttp://townfairtire.com/NOTE: You can not get a quote on the Townfair web page. You have to go there or call them

| I used Hotchkis and 275/40's with no problem. Stock height with those tires and their short sidewall will make your SS look like it's 4WD! :p _________________ Bill "The Verb" Crovo - Resident Car Slut & Unicorn Hunter A Toasted Marshmallow, A Long German, A Lame Suburban and expensive dreams... | You should run 285/40/17. It will fit fine. It'll look a lot better than a 275.
The Vogtland springs are great. I've had them for years.
They won't rub tires, or be too low to clear road imperfections. You will need to be more careful when parking or going up a steep grade though. They will harshen up the ride though. Maybe not the best for downtown Boston.
I wish my car was on the road and I could take you for a ride. |
