My father and I went out to Tractor Supply today to see if there were any good deals for tax free day. (Those in NH feel free to lol now). We came home with this:



115 amp, handles up to 3/16" metal. Mig ready. We've been playing with it all afternoon. My welds look like shit, but my neighbor was a welder for 30 years has been showing us how it's done.

I may need a lesson from your neighbor lol. I bought a craftsman mig that looks about the same as that one years ago and can only make welds that look like popcorn.

I have the harbor freight 90 amp flux wire machine, I can't tell you how good it is as I suck either way! I've been trying my best to get a good bead though.

I have the same machine, if your welding thicker metal with it set it on max and turn the feed down to around 3 or 4. You need to make te tip of the welder go back and forth in a U shape motion as you move along the line,

Also try "pushing" the bead instead of pulling it, sometimes that helps,

Metal prep is a huge deal also make sure you have clean bare metal,
And you can also chamfer the edge on both sides and "fill" the V that is made on thicker metals.
