Backspacing/staggered wheel/tire/calibration questions Empty
PostSubject: Backspacing/staggered wheel/tire/calibration questions   Backspacing/staggered wheel/tire/calibration questions EmptySun Jul 15, 2012 11:58 pm

Im looking to get some aftermarket 17" wheels. Im looking for maybe 17x8,8.5,9,9.5 for the front and atleast a 17x9.5 in the rear. Should I stagger them given that I have a 9C1 with a narrow rear? If it's a 5/8 difference in the rear on each side from an SS, what would be the best backspacing to sit flush with the front in the fender? What are stock SS rims for backspacing? I see some guys on the BIG board running these combos with 5.5 and 4.5(4.5 moving it 1" outward from the hub?) backspacing.

If someone can post up some math here for me and some suggestions on rims and tire combos (something with 28" height in mimd. Stock height?}

Prices arent really a concern here, but overall fuel economy in the long run is. Since Ive decided on "Sunday/fair weather" driving for this car, I dont want to spend a fortune on the go go juice for those short periods of time.

MEMBERS WHO HAVE DONE PCM FOR LESS

Also, to help with the fuel mileage/correct speedo (actual miles being put on the car) how do I go about the whole PCM for less thing. What do I need to tell them. Besides the PCM (DUH!) what do they need from me input wise?

Would the tune be better than the the stock 9C1 tune? I'm not sure on the differences. Price? Different tune levels?

I would like to be educated before I contact them (later this summer before I put it away for the winter)

So, that should be plenty of time for input, suggestion, moans, groans, gripes, complaints. As Chris stated, keep the B.S. replies to yourselves or start a topic for usesless info amongst yourselves. Im looking to spend a good chunk of $$$ in the next few months. Please take it as serious as I am. Like its for your car. TIA gents!

Never experimented enough to know the best staggered combo.
I'm sure you'll get good feedback on that from the other guys.

PCM 4 Less has a questionnaire that'll get you thru the options.
There are things you'll want to decide like No EGR, No o2's. etc
Just go thru it to match it to your plan.

Dont rule out PCMperformance

Really. 40+ views since I posted and one reply. Thank you Steve for the input on the PCM question. Whats that other PCM performance thing you mentioned there? Ive never heard of it. Any experience? I should post more non B/D body threads to get some attention around here.

The only input I have on the subject is that I much prefer a stockish front tire width, no wider than a stock Impala anyway. Ive been looking into Z06 wheels and they start with fronts a half inch wider than Impala, which I'm not wild about, but willing to deal with for the look I want.

My fear about anything wider is unnecessary wear and being more apt to wander on the uneven roads in my neck of the woods.

Hope that helps a little...

Doug

X 2 for http://www.pcmperformance.com/ . Alex is the man. He has done two of my tunes so far, and both were better than I had expected.
