Friend of a friend is selling a '78 Caprice he inherited from his grandparents. It's been parked and under a tarp about two years, but was garaged it's whole life before that. 62k miles, Green on green. Paint isn't bad. Looks like some peel on the hood, surface rust on the frame, floors are the same, but still solid. Has a 305 and runs. Needs a new battery and possibly tires. Don't know much more about it but may go out this week and check it out. If anyone is interested LMK. He's hoping for around $2500.

I wonder how much mouse shit is in it??? I think the $1,600 beat to shit Impala guy should buy it, and do a frame swap. There's your project right there. Then, part the rest out $$$. My .02

It sure has some potential. A set of C3 Vette wheels, a good cleaning, tune up. Nice summer car. I'd drive it cheers

As seen on craigslist! lol.

That would clean up with some elbow grease but be careful leaving a tarp on the car if it allows moisture to sit on the paint, if the paint is checked water will go right under the checks and start to rust!

I expect there will be a Grandfather clause.

30 days to complete a project or it automatically goes up for DIBS.

I'm starting all my projects now yesterday just in case this rule passes. Smile

Fixed.

Nice Impala. I love that color. There was one just like that one (color) at Condon's Olds, Pontiac, GMC in Foxborourgh years ago. It looked completely stock until the hood was raised. It had a 88 L98 5.7 TPI and 3:42s. One of the techs owned it, and he took me for a ride. It was like driving a LT1 caprice now.

I like that car, but I'd have to find a way to get it back here...and I'm worried about how much work it needs after sitting (belts, hoses, brake hoses, brake lines, blah blah). How good or bad does it actually run? Does it smell like mouse pee inside? Laughing

I envision pulling down/regluing headliner, thorough cleaning, basic tune up and fluid change (possibly "Italian tune-up" down the road to blow the crap out of it), leave the patina on it but throw a set of my chrome rally wheels on there, lol.

That smell is the worst. Fortunately they never got inside the '74 when it was in storage, just into the hood itself (which is why it rotted underneath.)

I haven't had a chance to get out there and see it yet. But from what he said the interior is good, just needs a decent cleaning. No pee smells Laughing He told me it turns over but needs a new battery and some fresh gas.

I don't think so! No reason why this should be a winter car and not a restoration.

Does he do payment plans? Does he want an 87 monte? Lol.

Idk why, but I care more about keeping a B body preserved than I do that monte.

I'll PM you details so we dont as up this thread. Or, do a search. I think I put a "feeler" thread on here months back. In 07 I brought to Cali then shipped it to my parents home in Alabama. It's been there since sept 08. Around 70k miles. Sorry. Haven't driven it since 09. Still runs and drives tho.

I am so smelling a 95 Caprice/Impala frame with stock 3.08s, discts all around, LT1/LSx, and fresh stock paint, and interior. If I had the money, and place to put it, it would have been mine back at 2k.

Dude... It's taken 30 YEARS for the paint to look that good! You respray it (or even WASH it) and I'll smack you! Wink

Relax Matt, it's coming home with me in a few days (gotta unload the '36 from the trailer), no one junking anything. I've been eyeballing it from the dark since it went sub-$1000...
I DO have a set of cragers for her off the wife's old 86, everything else body/paint/interior is staying stock. I won't say a LT-1 is out of the question but it'll be next year.

Damn if I only had the money and the place to put it! Justin don't let him junk it whatever you do!

I won't say a LT-1 is out of the question but it'll be next year.

cheers cheers cheers cheers

Wife's car, however she is really partial to the 86-90 ones. I'm just gonna fix what needs fixing and clean what needs cleaning ad ten delete the Jesus sticker. Razz
Crovo has dibs, I won't bag this car. But it could be arranged after the sale of it to a newer owner Arrow
Pics will come once it's in the driveway. Wink

I was trying to get my wife interested; her mother had a '77 Impala the same color combo. She's pretty much dead set on finding a DCM Roadmaster, though Smile

Wagon or sedan? Gotta love the b-body Babes! I think if I was with someone who said a caprice was ugly it would be a dealbreaker! Razz

It would be for me!

I'm glad someone here is grabbing it- I just think it might need to much for me to take on right now after sitting, plus it's on the other side of the state. I would just polish up the paint as it is and wax over it to preserve the "patina" and keep it from rusting. Make sure the dealer sticker on the trunk stays! lol

From what he said it was a church mobile for his old Betty of an aunt. Garaged until she passed. Probably needs interior fixes, tune up, and a new tank of gas. I'm gonna try and preserve as much as possible. And try and spray bomb the underneath. It's gotta be a daily driver.
Im gonna try and sandblast as much of the brackets, bolts, etc and clean up restore the engine bay. And maybe even retrofit some 134a
We'll see... It's on the back BACK burner as far as upgrades/resto right now.

AND WHAT THE HELL IS AN ITALIAN TUNEUP?!?!? Suspect
