PostSubject: Rear control arm length   Rear control arm length EmptySat Jul 07, 2012 6:32 pm

Does someone have a pair of stock rear lower and upper control arms they could measure for me?
I am looking for the overall length (center of eye to center of eye) for the lower and uppers.

I cant find an off the shelf double adjustable solid end lower, so if no other GM shares the same lower lengths, I am going to build some.

For what it is worth this info might help others....

According to one of the national boards "control arm" information, our factory lower arms are 22" from center to center. After I started hunting around the internet, I verrified that the A-Body (1964-1972) lower arms are ALSO 22" center to center:

http://www.jegs.com/p/Jegster/Jegster-Rear-Control-Arms-for-1964-72-A-Body/751152/10002/-1

You will notice the Jegs off the shelf non-adjustables are listed as 22."
If one of you guys has a stock lower and could verrify length for me that would be amazing!

If this is all correct, I am going to order these from Spohn on Monday!

http://www.spohn.net/shop/1968-1972-GM-A-Body/Suspension/Rear-Lower-Control-Arms/Rear-Lower-Control-Arms-Tubular-Adjustable-with-Spherical-Rod-Ends-Offset-Spacers.html

With the mini-tub and offset bushings, I should be able to tuck the 315/60 pretty good. Awesome price compared to the b-body off the shelf stuff too!

I've been digging through the same info over the last few weeks trying to figure out how to mount some sort of a sway bar on my '74 Impala's rear. Probably using the Panther bar setup. Apparently the 68-72 A, 71-96 B, and maybe the 73-77 A body arms are all the same part.

I think the Collonade cars (73-77 midsize) are pretty much the same frame but no one quote me on that.

I have stock boxy arms I can measure in the AM and post up before I head out.

When you say double adjustable. Do you mean adjustable at both ends on the lowers, or both upper and lower are adjustable?

Double adjustable is adjustable on each end. This allows you to crack the jam nuts on both ends and turn the main arm to make adjustments on the car.

I should be able to spit that # out for you cuz I JUST adjusted my Curries back to stock length BUT....I forget.

Monday AM I can get the # because the stocks are sitting there waiting.

For some reason, I dont remember it being 22" exactly but like I said...I forget

Just measured but the lowers are measurements that have to be taken with a grain of salt. I couldn't get the sway bar bolts out and then I didn't try to take them off of the rear end completely. BUT They are close to what steve said. so I'd go with his

Upper: end to end: 14"

eye to eye: 11 3/4"

Lower: end to end: 25" - 25 1/4"

eye to eye: 23"

Keep in mind I measured them installed onto a rear end so the bolt on the rear end side would have added to the measurement so I would assume that Steve is correct with 22"

Thanks for the info guys. The aftermarket A-Body arms have +/- .5-.75" built in. These should work out pretty good.

Keep us posted, I may do something like that later on. For now I'm using whatever I can afford though.

There is nothing wrong with the stockers cleaned up and boxed at lower power levels. I cut 1.7 60' on stock stuff, and it putted around town great.

With the new setup, i would be overpowering stock stuff inducing bind, nasty angles and etc.

Glad you posted to remind me... Arrow

Due to the sloppy sleeve & rubber bushing I could see anything from 21-7/8 to 22-1/8
So 22" center to center is confirmed

Uppers were 11-1/8 on 1 side, 11-3/16 other which I guess documents the twisting they're subject to.

I have a set of Metco uppers looking for a new home... Cool

EDIT: adjustable poly 1 end, brand new adjustment screws in each (were bound up & I bought new parts)
