Mad Yes I believe it is the WP drive seal. I replaced the WP DRIVE seal, Opti/Cam driven seal. It was leaking out the WP drive seal evident due to the "oil wash" down the front of the timing cover, I wish I had taken pics before I cleaned. Took it for a test drive and within 10-15 min. I could smell the ole familiar smell of burnt Mobil 1 Mad!
The Cam sprocket seems real loose and sloppy. Could this cause the WP drive seal to fail?
Here is the new installed pics

Tom
Are you installing it with a w/p drive seal tool? If not, the inner seal will fold outward causing it to leak. There are two seals within the metal
case. The outer seal looks fine, and it will, but the inner seal has to face toward the engine. Even if the drive itself has a little deflection, that
should not stop the seal from working if it is installed correctly.

Good luck.

I pulled the new seal and it was installed correctly, believe me I've screwed up several of these seals , lol. Installed another and STILL leaking! Didn't have a problem with any of the other cars, L99, 94 9C1 and Toms9C1. I did notice that the gear drive that surrounds the seal is very sloppy. So this gives me an excuse to buy a bunch of new parts, rebuild my spare LT1 and swap her in.

The other thing I might suspect would be some pitting or a nick in the shaft that rotates within the seal.
Any damage on the shaft usually requires shaft replacement to ensure dry running.
Sometimes it is possible to spin the compromised shaft in a lathe and stroke it with 400 grit to get it to "clean up".
It is also advisable to lube the shaft and seal lip during assembally so that it does not start up and run "bone dry".
If it does run bone dry, then the rubber lip can, or more likely, WILL melt from the friction.
