| I've been meaning to do this for a while, and now that CompNine is back, there was no more reason not to get it done... I just ran the numbers for some German Export cars, and I gotta say, I'm surprised. I always knew GM made very few of these, but I was thinking along the lines of 300-400 cars... However according to CompNine (once you've figured out how to use the new "Rarity" feature), the total of cars that came from the factory equipped with T84 is a mere 147! That's a pretty small number considering Chevrolet built close to 700.000 91-96 B-Bodys. 147! That could not even have justified the cost of developing these headlamps in the first place! Hah, once this information gets out, it'll put an end to people practically giving mint sets away for $ 2500 on ebay... Took a look at the Mid-East, too, and I find this even more surprising, it seems like GM built an astonishing total of 8910 Caprice SS (WX8) in 1996 alone! Wow. I thought that car was rare. | |

That's more 96 WX8's than 87 two doors. HA! So does that mean that only 147 cars had the amber taillights too?

So does that mean that only 147 cars had the amber taillights too? Why, how many 87 two doors? And yes, only 147 pairs of the amber tails, too. I've never owned an Export Caprice, but since I found that number, I suddenly feel the urge to immediately go and buy one.

Buy one and then sell the tail lights to US enthusiasts for three grand? 3,110 total, last year of production for the two door caprice. The real reason why I chose to fix mine after the accident instead of taking the cash and a few parts and buying a clean four door.

| So I know there was a pic posted of the export tails before, but those were 91/92 style. What did they do for 93-96 and if it was different how many of the 147 are 91/92 style.. or is it 147 made in 91/92 as export and then more in 93-96 that had regular tails?? | |

| 1992 is the only year GM made the "German" export version, which AFAIK is the only version that came with T84 from the factory, so that's 147 for 1992, and none in other model years.
German Export means the cars had T84 w/ Headlamp Washer System, Amber Tails, Front Fender Mounted Turn Signals, 3rd Brake Light Delete, Tow Hooks front & back, all Glass conforming to E-Standards, Seat Belts conforming to E-Standards (Big black buckles with bright Orange release buttons), km/h Speedos and breakaway outside Mirrors, plus front License Plate Bracket to fit German plates and that funky rear Bumper with the large license plate opening and the two reflectors inserted into the trim, plus flat Hood Ornament. Also, it seems that most, if not all of these cars had HD cooling, Ride & Handling suspension and 3.08 rears with Posi. Almost allGerman Export cars I've seen were Burgundy Red, by the way... And I know of at least one factory Export LTZ.
I'm not quite sure, but I think this is the same version that Sweden got, so probably not all of the 147 made it to Germany. Belgium, Luxemburg and the Netherlands got a different Version, minus all the German stuff except the Speedo and 3rd Brake Light Delete. that's about it for MRE. No Swiss or Austrian versions, to my knowledge. None for France or Great Britain, either.

| Awesome info! It clears up a lot of gray area to the whole export thing. Sign me up for the 3rd brake light delete. Can you get a picture of the back deck speaker area showing no 3rd brake light? I installed a cts third brake light and its almost 3 feel wide. I've got that hump in the way. But I've got it figured out. | |

Uh, it never crossed my mind to take a photo of... something that isn't there, really. I think 3rd Brake Light Delete only means the Lens is capped over and no Wiring or Bulb Socket. No difference if viewed from inside the car. Let me see if I can dig up some pictures.... ...here we go. This is a confirmed 3rd Brake Light Delete car, and while this isn't exactly a very detailed picture, you pretty much get the point. Housing's still there. This car also has the 9C1 cluster, but doesn't seem to be an LTZ. Crap. Now I have to dig even deeper. In the meantime, another one, this one missing one of the Fog Lamps, but clearly showing the Export Tow Hook. And it isn't red, either.
