Pretty cool! I had heard about dipping wheels, emblems, etc. but never the whole car! Not a bad idea. I wonder if you have to wash your car ever again?? If not count me in for the winter.

I'm half tempted to do it. asking a few friends if they have the 'kit'.
the sprayer is the big money piece (though only $80)

my paint is coming off in SHEETS lately... so I need to do SOMETHING

well, my friend has been practicing it:

he says if I buy the materials and lunch, he'll spray my car
looks like $177 to spray it black or white or $222 to spray it battleship gray (as above)

Think I might do it Smile

once dipped, I'm going to spray paint some battleship markings on the dip (which is nice because it peels off if I hate it)

One thing I love about this car is that even if I do sell it, I don't expect to get a lot of money back. This is not one of my 'appreciating' cars.
If, in 2 years, I can get $1200 for it, I'll call it a win Smile

The whole point is to have fun I think. If you buy investment cars that really appreciate you can never beat on them or have real fun without worrying. Not worth it.

I saw a newer Nissan Z-car in Salem (MA) the other day and wondered who the hell painted it satin black already...I bet it was this.

Same for the satin black last generation M3 convertible that drives by my house once a week or so...

It's $59/ gallon for black and $74 for gray. I need 3 gallons It's actually gun sprayed, not rattle canned. And there's no prep work aside from a good wash and maybe some claying.

It'll stuck to a muddy car if you want. And it will fill small dents too. I'm going to grind the rust on the edge of my hood off. Seal it and then spray it.

Like your quarters, that just seals in the rust and moisture. Just take 5 minutes, sand and prime it. Why half ass it?

What are you talking about? In saying I'm going to grind and prime the rust. I only have one spot of rust on the car.

... fills small dents scratch ...... will it just contour to the dent and fill it with color? I dont see how it will add enough material to fill a dent or deep scratch........

....... Billy Mayes used to sell this " Scratch be gone pen" Sure it worked great on camera....... in real life it looks like a kid with nail polish painted your car. All the quick fix methods never last or work like they say.......

.... prove me wrong..... good ahead.... but I believe there is more to this method than what they are selling and your friends are telling.

I'm gonna dip my car in rust to save myself the trouble and heartache in the future. Let's get it all out of the way now.

No joke, I'm gonna go pick up a can of this stuff and coat some small shit to see how it works. I wouldn't cover my car in this stuff, but being the first b/d to have it might not be a bad idea at all. I just read up on it a bit. Seems pretty easy to use. Does it come in gloss black?

No, but there is a 'glossifier' or something that gives a clearcoat finish. works just like the plastidip too, you can peel it off just as easy if you hate it

you have to realize this stuff is 'semi permanent'
and by that I mean that if you want it permanent, it's permanent (as permanent as paint)
BUT, if you DON'T want it, you peel it off with no damage to the paint underneath
here's how you remove it:

Also, keep in mind, the guy who runs this business has sprayed his BRAND NEW Audi S4 TWICE. once in flat black, once in flat white...

The only thing is that after you 'dip' the car, you have to wash it differently:

Damn people seem to be against it! Well I'm unsure if I'm going to do my whole car in it, I have used it. I like the product.

Overall, very happy with the product. 6bucks a can, dries quick. If you screw up, wait for it to dry, peel it off, try again. If you get up REAL close, I mean 2inches away, you can tell its not as perfect as if I had removed the trim and sanded/primed/painted. Who the hell is going to put their face 2" from your trim? Nobody. If youre a foot away, it looks mint. -Paul

I think what Chris is getting at isnt so much the year of the car but the quality of the paint. I'm still skeptical on this stuff. Plus, im really starting to think the whole satin/primerbombed/black/gray thing is REALLY overdone. And plastidip is just proving that point. Plus, it all boils down to prep work. I looked at dipping a set of BBS vw wheels and you have to clean and degrease the hell out of them to get the stuff to stick properly. Granted that applies to normal paint too, but at that point why not just spend the same money and buy actual paint?

It's better than the flat flaky beige it is now
And better than I could rattle can or do the cheapo maaco job.

Ok, so I plasti-dipped the already spray bombed black trim on the bottom of the cougar and it looked pretty damn good! The only problem was I tested the removal ability and peeled it all off of the rear bumper...oops. It was like peeling elmers glue off of your hands as a kid, so it was fun.

Worth the five bucks for little things. The whole car...Who knows???

This would be a good alternative for anyone wanting to black out the pillars on their doors between the windows like where I put the vinyl stuff

Just his track car. If you have enough $ for a z06 track car, you can afford to paint the f'in thing. Damn rich people.
