| So, I am doing another opti. And not in the Valdez..... Yet. I lovez me some opti. Thank you GM for stuffing it behind everything. I certainly hope that engineer works for Ford now. ASSHOLE! This is the worst one I think I have ever seen. 94 with 130k, original opti. Both the opti drive seal, and water pump drive seal are just destroyed. You can see part of the w/p drive seal hanging to the right of the drive itself. The actual rubber seal portion of the opti seal had broken away from the metal retainer, so it was probably just spinning with the opti. I have yet to pull the old opti apart, but it is junk. So much deflection in the rotor portion, it was a ticking time bomb. I can't wait to see how much oil and burn marks are in the upti when I get it apart. If I can get it apart. lol. |

| Why'd you remove the coil?
Air Pump delete on the list? | |

Air Pump delete on the list? To clean all the connections, and to give more room. Air pump bracket has to come off to get w/p off. |

| At 120 miles a day, I'd need to degrease at power wash and degrease weekly. And no air pump delete; I have to pass emissions for the next 7 years. Runs great so far, and I have all my seat belts again | |

| Also, with what Billy said, GM entered a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) a long time ago stating that it causes damage to the MAF via moisture intake that collects in the AIR tube. Sooooo, delete it, leave the relay and fuse in and buy this. I got one for the '95 that Indie has. Very useful sticker!

I am sorry to hear that Mike. Keep me informed on what you find. If it is the opti, I will do the repair free of charge. The only thing you will have to buy is a decent opti. I will buy that one from you if it is the problem, and I will deal with the return. I will cover any cost for the gaskets and lost coolant as well. Hopefully it is something simple. |

| Having driven a pile of miles with an opti (like many of you) I'll throw in my .02 Mike...your right....Dont blame an opti for every little thing. If you jump in & fire the car up & drive off with no problem...look elsewhere. Little hesitations & shyt like that can come from a gazillion different things on these vehicles. Some you can find....some...good luck with that. Unless you can say you've eliminated 20 other "possibles" just drive it. | |

| I'm pretty certain it was the Opti the first time, because 1) Bill's description of the Opti, and 2) it ran perfect for a few weeks/couple thousand miles . This time I'll investigate further. It's running fine and fuel economy is fine; it's just a minor annoyance. Even if it is the Opti, I'm not going to bother Bill with it until the Valdez is straightened out . | |

| Thanks; I found lots of threads! Most common culprit seems to be the EGR valve, which IIRC Bill also replaced. I'd imagine a leaking intake would wipe out a new EGR, though. | |

| I did not touch your EGR Mike. But I tightened mine down, and it fixed my issue. The best thing to do is have it scanned if you can't find it. I was almost at that point myself. If you think it may be the egr, just unplug the vacuum line from it, and plug the line. Drive it around. This should tell you if the EGR is the culprit. Mine was just loose, so the trick did not work. And I tried using the old gasket. I got so aggravated and embarrassed by it I even deleted the opti class thread. |
