| my shocks seem pretty worn and I know the rear air shock has a leak or something... either way, the car's a bit overly rollie-poly over bumps and I wanted to get something SLIGHTLY more stiff and in control. I'm not sure how old the springs are, but I might as well replace those too if I can afford to. I'd LIKE to remove the air suspension if I can too and make it simpler. | |

| Gabrial Ultras at autozone are a decent inexpensive shock that will get rid of the bounce. Regular front and rear front http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Gabriel-Ultra-Shock-Strut-Front/1994-Chevrolet-Caprice/_/N-j0wemZ8oxxw?itemIdentifier=220145_172635_7413_2183 rear http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Gabriel-Ultra-Shock-Strut-Rear/1994-Chevrolet-Caprice/_/N-j0wemZ8oxxx?itemIdentifier=358820_6880_7413_2183 Police/taxi front http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Gabriel-Ultra-Shock-Strut-Front/1994-Chevrolet-Caprice/_/N-j0wemZ8oxxw?itemIdentifier=62851_172635_7413_3899 rear http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Gabriel-Ultra-Shock-Strut-Rear/1994-Chevrolet-Caprice/_/N-j0wemZ8oxxx?itemIdentifier=258467_6880_7413_3899

| I have the Gabriel Ultra's in the rear of my wagon. VERY nice shock. Coupled with the CC623 variable rate spring the ride sits and rides great now | |

Rockauto. But if you give Autozone/Advance that part number they can order them too.

No. CC623 is for the rear. I have 5030 for the front which is a 9C1 spring.

No. CC623 is for the rear. I have 5030 for the front which is a 9C1 spring. awesome, thanks. so it looks like about $100 for shocks and $100 for springs? anything else that needs to be replaced when doing those? any 'non reusable bolts/nuts' or bushings?

anything else that needs to be replaced when doing those? any 'non reusable bolts/nuts' or bushings? The Ultra's will come with all new hardware.

| are the shocks and springs replaceable without an alignment?
and, seeing as I'm at work without my shop manual, how difficult on a scale of 1 to GODF***INGDAMNIT is changing the suspension?

| It is highly recommended when a front steering component is replaced that an alignment should follow. | |

| Toms right about alignment. Replacing the springs (front) can be a little scary (only because of the power), but, with a helping hand its no problem. New suspensions FTW On the scale....4 ....ONLY because of the front springs & one time battle with upper rear shock mounts.

| any special tools required? spring compressor? Is this 'Shock Absorber Socket' necessary? http://www.handsontools.com/Kent-Moore-J-25591-Front-Shock-Absorber-Socket_p_22877.html?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=CSE&utm_term=Kent-Moore%20J-25591%20Front%20Shock%20Absorber%20Socket&utm_campaign=BROI | |

| Nope. I found theyre more trouble to properly implement then theyre worth. Remove the tire & shock Jack under the LCA, loosen BJ castle nut (tap to seperate) Lower jack slowly & remove spring Assemble in reverse. How far are you going?...BJ's too? | |

| Cant tell what that shock socket is. There is a good one for that. Old shocks I just break it off & go (if your talking fronts). Rears are only because of location & access to both sides of the nut / bolt | |

| I just use a deep 9/16 socket with 12"-18" of extension on it. Place the socket with the extension over the top bolt of the front shock, and move the extension back and forth until the bolt fractures. Could take 5 times. Could take twenty times. Make sure you get at least 6-12" of fore and aft movement. |

| just curious... is there sort of a 'performance' suspension option? I know I'm not gonna make a corner carver... but I'd like to have something a bit more stable | |
