PostSubject: The Transformation of Cloud 9   Fri Feb 10, 2012 8:45 pm

Ok, since everyone else is doing it it, here's my story...
1995 My grandparents are in Florida for their winter getaway in February. They have an 89' Caprice on the way down from Buffalo. Grandpa spies a 94 in a used car lot and decides to take it for a spin for shits and giggles. He falls in love with the car on first drive. He buys it for my grandma and they drive it home. The car has around 19k on it, Grandpa passes away in June 97, grandma keeps the car and literally uses it for a grocery getter and church transport. Fast forward to December 2010, grandma has license pulled because of her alzheimers. The car has 47k original on it, unmolested and never beaten. Calls me because I have been telling her for years that I wanted the car when she was done with it. Here is where my story begins.......... Picture timeline on it's way........

The day I got it home, been waiting 15 years for Grandma to give it up to me.

Custom intake made from various pieces I scrounged up and an elbow I bought on ebay. Also deleted the mechanical fan using Garys Wires harness. This made the job very simple although the harness was $85. But with the factory connections it looks like it was there all along. Also blacked out the wiper fluid and antifreeze tanks.

Installed the Sunpro tachometer. I bought the pcm pins from Mouser Electronics online, $5 for 2 of them, to wire the tach signal in from the pcm. I know I could have spliced into the coil wire also but I am anal retentive and just could not bring myself to do it. I also changed the speedometer display color to red. Did this using a taillight repair kit I got at Pep Boys. While I had the dash apart I painted over and clear coated the bezel deleting the "APPLY BRAKE TO SHIFT FROM PARK" just to clean it up a bit.

Bought these over the summer, just haven't had time to get them on the car. I am just gonna weld the new mufflers into the stock exhaust when I put the headers on. Also plan on deleting the resonators and punching the cats out. The mufflers are Flow Monsters, a very inexpensive stainless alternative to other more popular brands. These were $125 shipped for the pair. The headers are ceramic coated BBK Shortys, which I bought on ebay for $460 shipped.

I'm thinking maybe next winter stripping down my wheels and trying this scheme on them. Mine are stained anyway and the clear coat is pretty bad on all but 1. They are very straight and true though with no curb rash.
So the picture below, which is also my new signature pic was taken yesterday. As you can see I finally got the lowering springs in it. Found them lightly used on ebay for $90. Dropped it down a good 2 1/2". She is going in for an alignment on Tuesday. I am loving what I've done to it so far and can't wait for the exhaust work to be done. Also in the works, I am replacing the 2.93 gears with a set of 3.42s. I also have an SS spoiler and grill that are being painted right now to match the car. Also I am thinking about blacking out the pillars. I saw them on Matt Trackers white Caprice and loved the way it changed the look of the car. It is not really worth doing too much more to it, as she is getting very cancerous underneath. Most everything I have done and bought for it I can pull back off and resell if it ever gets too bad and needs to be retired. Still planning on a C5 Vette by my 50th birthday. But the Cloud 9 should get me to that point easily enough.
I hope you guys enjoy my writeup. Sleep

I would just order the walker 2.5" intermediate and tail pipes rather than modifying your stock exhaust. And don't bother with gutting the cats.
Trust me on all of this. You will thank me that your car has more power you can feel instead of just hear, and your car won't burp every time you
let off the gas. I can help you with what you need, and install.

Actually, I just you tubed a bunch of vids. I think I like the sound of the cats intact as well as the resonators. I think I will go with just the new mufflers and the headers. It has a really nice rumble, I just don't want it way too loud. I will see how I like it. I can always go back and modify it later.

If you use the dynomax pipes, you can add cherry bomb mufflers later for resonators. I have done that before, and it made a world of difference.

I know these are really quick renditions, but I lack a good photo editing program, so bear with me. But I suppose the black with a silver ring would work too. I think I would still lean toward the white though.

The black would clash horribly, imo.

Then again, you're stealing my thunder with the white rims (even if mine are 15x8 rallys Razz )

I personally think the white just looks very cool. I have seen black SS wheels all over the net, this is the first time seeing white...Maybe you'll start something new! Arrow

Definately go with the white/chrome-ish lip. On the lowered suspension, matching SS grill and spoiler, black pillars, that would look awesome. Don't listen to the flim-flam. If its what you thought of first, then that's what you really want so why not follow through with it? I'd go with it. A unified idea to the SS wheels. However, I wouldn't mind a black set of SS wheels for my car...

I would leave them alone, and natural aluminum. It gives the car a even mix of grandma, and youthful sport. Putting color to those wheels will take away
from the overall look of the car.

What a couple of Buzz Killingtons Surprised I think I have ruled the black out. Either gonna just strip them down and re clear them or go with the white
. I really like the look of the white cyclops

White will be fun for like a week, then they'll get brake dust all over them...lol.

I'd strip them if the clear is bad and polish them. It looks good in that color combo and goes with the car...black does too.

Ok, so no colored wheels, gonna just strip them down and reclear them. Wanna do the smooth center caps from a Chevy Venture though. I really like the look of that. My SS grille and SS spoiler are at the paint shop right now getting color on them. Hope to have them on soon. Thanks guys for all of your input. It is appreciated. Smile

So I got a few more things done on the car.

I deleted the gunsight on the hood.

Got the spoiler on.

Found this doorknob when I was a teenager in one of my Dad's apartment buildings... just been waiting for the perfect place for it Very Happy
it even kinda matches the dash.

Yep and last weekend I finally got my 3.42's in.

I love the look of the stock SS rims not white and not black . This is your car and it is looking good the white rims will have dust all over them and the black dont fit the car . This is just my 2cents and who would want to have black rims any how ! I have seen some cars black paint black tint black rims black head lights and tale lights , I have to ask myself whats that all about ? You car is great and your doing nice mods most important is do what you like and you want to do not what people say is cool or look good . I think your car is great and I sure do like it , alot !!!

So I finally got around to taking the Caprice on some 0 to 60 runs at the local industrial park this weekend. Made 3 runs, 2 @ 6 seconds and 1 @ 5.9. Mind you I was doing this myself with a stopwatch. No passengers and almost no gas in the tank. Still had the spare in the trunk though. I don't think that's too bad for a two and a half ton car.
