PostSubject: Tranny rebuild   Tranny rebuild EmptyThu Apr 23, 2009 9:13 pm

I'm pulling my trans out tomorrow to have it rebuilt, I blew it racing a rustang 18 months ago:x It has a shift kit now and i am installing a 10" TCI torque converter 2600 stall. I was wondering if there is anything else i could do to upgrade and strengthen it that would not break the bank. This is my second rebuild, the first time it had 42,000 the reverse went, now it has roughly 137,000 on it. Any suggestions fellas study

Buy one of these. Price includes shipping to your door. Shane even pays shipping for the core back to him.

I have been on this site, and that would break the bank, a friend of mine has a lift and is helping pull it, thats not costing me anything but time. The torque converter ran me $600, and to have a basic rebuild from a very reputable local shop $800. Believe me, i would love to order one from cpt4l60-e.com.

But that is just a basic rebuild+ converter $1400. To address the failure points correctly you need to spend more money. The basic CPT transmission which addresses those issues is only going to run you $1400+ $225 more for their converter.

What's more, when that $800 rebuilt blows up in a year, you'll just be out another $1400 when you pony up for the real deal.

I'd really, really, really suggest CPT if you plan on keeping the car for a period of time.

Shane (the owner) will do layaway if you need it... And he might even work with you on the price. I'm sure business must be somewhat slow these days.

Yea it seems the 4L60E is an extra hard tranny to build for some reason.

Hundreds and hundreds of B-Body owners have had their so called "reputable" shops build completely worthless 4L60E's.

Bingo.
And when you find a shop who can work on them correctly, It is priceless.

Call Shane it will be worth the call. Funds are tight for everyone, but it sounds like you are talking the same kinda money for a night and day difference in rebuilding, and no down time till the new trans arrives.

Trust me, you will thank us. I try very hard to give the best advice, even if it is something people do not want to hear. This is a no brainer.

Thanks for all the suggestions, unfortunately time is also a problem. I need to get it on the road sooner than later, my wifes vehicle is in need of repairs and i need another set of wheels. The local trans guy is well known and has a great rep. If time was not an issue, i would try CPT and or others. The local shop guy has recommended many upgrades, and he has rebuilt many high horsepower trans. Your all correct, $$$ is about the same at the end.

Thanks again, wish me luck...
