PostSubject: I didnt know this   I didnt know this EmptyMon Nov 28, 2011 9:11 pm

I was unaware that the LS got its own dash plaque. Is it a rare thing or more common than I think? Ive never owned an LS and the only two in the club I know of would have been Fishers old white one and Tim's black one he was trying to sell. Maybe Cloud9's is one as well...

While my car was technically an LS, it was also an LTZ so it only carried LTZ badges. Also the style of badge you linked I believe was never on TBI cars.

Tim's car is definitely an LS, so he'd know best if they come with the plaque.

The LS cars themselves aren't that rare in general, but now that you mention it I don't think there are many in the club.

They also have LS emblems on the front fenders.

I think I have one of those in the glove box of my Caprice, pulled it off one at a yard. I decided I liked the bow tie better, but here they are for comparison.

Thanks for the info. What are some of the differences between an LS/LTZ and, I guess, a regular Caprice.
We all know what a B4U, 9C1, and Impala are, educate me. I almost never see an LS/LTZ on C/L...

The LS trim package is the luxury package for Caprices. It includes things like leather, power, etc.

The LTZ was a chassis package for Caprice that was only available in 1991-1993.

The LTZ package included all of the upgraded suspension and HD parts from the 9C1 (including the 5.7 V8 for 1993 only).

When you combine the two packages, you get a car that combines all of the civilian luxuries with all of the Police HD equipment. The LTZ was also the only way to get a 5.7 Engine in a Civilian TBI Sedan.

In 1994 they discontinued the LTZ and released the Impala SS.

The Impala SS was essentially the replacement for the LTZ, because it includes most of the upgraded 9C1 parts and combines that with the Civilian luxuries.

The LS moniker was never discontinued, and kept being used on future civilian Caprices and still referred to the luxury package.

Thanks for the lesson. If I ever buy a "clean" B again, it'll be a TBI one, maybe a '93 LTZ! Still sums it up that WX3 means its still a Caprice(with Impala SS trim) tho lol...wait for it... bounce...someone will get mad...

Speaking of the LS. They run the gamut option wise. I've seen them with the optional velor cloth with power everything. But then theres my brothers LS... manual seats and mirrors but the, optional velor cloth seats, LS badging, grill and climate control with the idiot lights

The 94 LS I got that plaqe out of what a pretty nice car, it really pissed me off that it was in the yard. It was black with cloth red guts, power everything, twilight sentinel, wood around the radio, posi rear end and an lt1. The thing had no rust or damage on it besides a dent on the fender.

I HATE seeing that. Last year there was a mint B4U LDM power everything with leather in the yard with 58k miles. It looked like old people(snow birds) had it. It had a bunch of paper work from florida in the glove box. Someone smashed all the windows so the leather was wrecked from rain/snow. Oh well.

When you AutoX on these tires, be sure to air them up to 45PSI or so. Beware that you will get some noticeable sidewall roll, so airing them up will help minimize that effect.

I was told by the guy at firestone they discod raised white letter firehawks due to lack of interest. No I hope some places will still carry them for a while.

A guy at Firestone told me the same thing 5 years ago. It seems like they produce them in batches so availability is spotty. I don't think they are officially discontinued though.

Check the availability: "fewer than 3"

Both 225/70 and 235/70 are under 3 available.

Choices are slim for RWL. One that is readily available is bfg radial ta.

But I think the Caprice LS came with a ww tire. Smile

Yeah, I like the BFGs but they are mostly a cosmetic tire. I may switch to running blackwalls in the future. They don't handle bad, the ones on my Impala are good, but the Firehawk is smoother and quieter, and also seems more surefooted in the rain. The BFGs do last a pretty long time. The thing is the tire has been made since the 70s, with the current sidewall design dating to the early 80s or maybe even the very late 70s, and the tread design dating back to maybe the mid-late 1980s. They're old!

Do you have Radial T/As, or those KDW tires for the SS that are giving you problems? I'd think they're totally different tires...the Radial T/A is from years before Michelin even considered buying the company, lol.

BFG does have some great tires, the Long Trail T/A Tour seems to be a great product, while the Rugged Trail T/A seems kind of crappy to me. The All Terrain T/A is awesome but is kind of overpriced. You can get 80K out of a set though...

Yes, the KDW's I have them in 17 & 18" directional both are awful.
I wont put them ALL down, but I'll never buy BFG again.
Many better choices for the SS out there.

I'm with Matt on this one. I like the T/A as a cruising tire but if I had any intentions of really turning or anything I'd go with the firehawks. With the limited high speed curves the two door went through (and stalled in if the tank wasn't full...) I always felt safe on those tires. Pretty grippy I must say. That being said I would buy BFGs for a truck (all terrains) and T/As for a car like Matts Impala that wouldn't see many high speed turns if any at all. Just my $0.02 Arrow

I didn't hate my BFG's because they didn't turn well.... I hated them because they wandered all over the road and didn't ride smooth.

In my experience they rode very nicely scratch Maybe it was a shitty set? Could just be personal preference too.

Yeah, stay away from BFG. They are teh SUCK!!!! But at least their tires are mostly round. That's about the only nice thing I can say about them. The only good tire that they make that I would run is the All Terrain truck tires. The rest is crap.

Get the Firestones. I loved my Indy 500's!!!! I've also had good luck with my General Exclaim UHP's, too, believe it or not. Will buy another set of those...

Yes, in 235/70. According to Tire Rack. I'll call some of my tire suppliers tomorrow and ask.
