PostSubject: Project "Green Machine"   Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:41 am

So my plans are to chronicle the changes I make along the way to my new truck.
I got lucky, and found a 1996 C1500 equipped exactly the way I wanted one, with the exception of the Chyene package, and color.
I would have prefered a W/T, but with the Cheyene package I at least get tilt and cruise. I just have a lot of body side mouldings to remove. It does have a 305/automatic combo with G80. And the posi does work. Very Happy

Anyways, the plan is to lower it with a 2/3 lowering kit, exhaust, intake, Some rust repair (hopefully with no fires this time:scratch: ). Either indy firehawks with full mood discs, or Impala SS wheels. And either stay 305 for gas milage, or bup up to a 6.0/4l80e combo in the future.

Yes this is now my hot rod, and I am keeping this one. Very Happy

Ain't C/K the same thing though? GMT400 is for 88-98, C/K is just like a model name, n'shet.

My dad's MA title actually says GMT400 right on it for the model name, LOL

How did the decal come off? Did it just heat up and peel off?

Shaping up already Billy Cool

Personally I like the stock Chevy nose 1000 times better than the Escalade nose, I'd work with that if it were me. The Escalade/Denali nose is just...different. Very Happy

I am starting to agree. I am thinking about a all chrome grill with a diesel chrome bumper, or a solid chrome 2500/3500 bumper.

That's how I got my 4x4 stickers off, too. (And all the frikken bumper stickers he had on the gate, too!) Came off nice and easy with the heat gun!

I have figured out the paint scheme. I will keep the emerald green as the upper color. And Pewter up to the high body line, with maybe a red, or orange pin stripe seperating the two colors.

The thing with the Escalade/Denali nose is that it was added at the very end of the OBS-truck run as an afterthought to be different, it kind of doesn't flow with the lines of the truck IMHO. It's like someone went up to Kate Beckinsale or Amber Heard and put some dirty 1980s wood shop safety goggles on her face. That and the Denali grille of the same vintage reminds me of a FUPA. It's up to Billy of course, I'm just sayin' there's much better things to do than spend a bunch of cash swapping a whole nose off the truck to make it look good when the money can be invested in other mods...I'd definitely mold in Deville tails or use the GMC grille shell before swapping an Escalade nose over to it...the original nose is perfect so it's kind of hard to find something that's going to go better than that unless someone HAD to have it on there.

Stock's the shit! Cool

Or...

LOL

The 88-98 trucks really are the most handsome and best looking ones out there, I kind of want to get another 2wd, do a 3/4 drop on it, a couple minor mods, and just cruise around. Don't really use the Caprice or the Impala much...lol
Billy you've messed me all up by buying that thing, now look what you've done.

I dropped that idea days ago. Mostly over cost. I want to keep this a low buck build, and the Escalade nose could cost more than I paid for
the truck. I would prefer a all chrome stock style grill, chrome diesel bumper, and euro lights with hids. I think I will go with a roll pan for the rear as the rear bumper is junk.

The day I picked it up.

Yesterday.

I'm surprised you didnt leave the mud flaps on until spring.
Sure they're kinda ugly but they stop the sand blasting

I'm surprised you didnt leave the mud flaps on until spring.
Sure they're kinda ugly but they stop the sand blasting
I had planned on leaving them, but once I started removing all the aftermarket extras, I found I could not stop. Rolling Eyes

I love this truck, and it almost feels like driving a TBI b-body..... Until I hit the corners. Then I am reminded it is just a truck.
It must be because the front suspension and steering is almost identical to that of a b-body.

I am now thinking a 5.3 or 5.7LS1/4L80E combo. I found a web site that offers all the info I need to do the swap.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little...

Sorry Ant, but why put arguably one of the ugliest front ends in recent memory on in place of nice looking, factory sheetmetal?

i totally agree if were going by the look on the tahoe... Surprised

but the red suburban with the maine plates in the thread, ive personally seen about
20 times and IMO, i think that front end looks better on that bodystyle every time i see
it.

I guess I'm the only one who likes it Laughing I think if the new interior was added in as well then that would really sweet! I like how he incorporated the body lines and door handles. I would prefer it be at stock ride height and less beefy (read: ugly) bumpers and it would be an awesome truck!

I actually like when those swaps are done, I have to find a pic of the 2 dr Tahoe that pops into my head...

It's a TON of work though and would take a shatload of money to do...none of the body lines really work so it involves "massaging" the whole damn truck, lol.
