Bad stuff gone good Empty
PostSubject: Bad stuff gone good   Bad stuff gone good EmptySun Nov 20, 2011 9:55 pm

So as I get off 495N in the wagon after a 3 hr round trip yesterday things go bad.
I merge at the bottom of the ramp, my power steering pump moans & I get that kick in the steering wheel.
Damn WTF? Mad
Only a couple of miles to my house & mostly straight so I baby it home.
Pop the hood & sure enough, the pressure line to the box is weeping (OK its flowing pretty badly).
Why does that line rusts more then any other line in the car? dont know. scratch
So I douche it down & see there's no saving it. Thats BAD! Crying or Very sad
Rest of the day is spoken for so I only have time to scout out the part.
Find what I need in the next town over, nice things are looking up. Neutral
I go out this morning to prep.
Next thing I know Matt (my son) is there looking to turn a wrench. Wow, things are REALLY looking up.
Spent a little to much time at this point (but he definitely benefited) and before long the mechanical fan & air pump have fallen off & the manifolds are ready to plug. Arrow
I snap the line off the box so I can use a socket & the fitting breaks free, fitting on the pump cracks like butter too.
I lay under the car & fill my eyes & hair with more crap then I have grease on my hands...whatever, the wagon doesnt get much love.
New hose installed its ALL GOOD.
Havent buttoned up the little details cuz I ran outta light, had to work in the street due to fluid mess.
1/2 hour tomorrow & its back on the road (in time for WED snow?) Like a Star @ heaven

Was the fluid and junk worse than the rust and dirt from cracking the body mounts Mad That sucked!

Glad to hear of another Matt in the fixing B-body game! Now get him to Revere to work on HIS car.

Speaking of that snow, I picked up a nail in one of my snow tires yesterday! Evil or Very Mad Sealed it up and guess what doesn't work! The air compressor!!! Glad I have that bald full size spare. Rolling Eyes

When I did the mounts I was able to keep out from directly under the fallout.
This was a high mileage bunch of greasy / oily flake, for a couple hours it didnt look like I had a bald spot on the back of my head Laughing

Revere was great for access time but sucked logistically for Matt
Wagon or Impala.....same lessons Arrow
(And when /if he breaks things it doesnt piss dad off as much Smile )

Laughing I see your reasoning.

My dad and I both broke a pretty equal amount of parts on the 84 caprice so he couldn't get mad. Arrow

If you ever meet my father, ask him why I needed to replace the discharge/suction hose on my ac compressor. Laughing But I'll take all the projects that lasted longer than they should have and broken parts for all the car and life lessons and time I get to spend with him. Arrow

And THAT's what it's all about!
Matts still a complete rookie, but he's learning and I try not to be to hard on him as he learns whats what.
He's finishing off (hopefully) that stage where I talk & he daydreams about something completely different Laughing

That fitting in the back of the power steering pump is one of those things... It can do the "THIS EFFIN THREAD JUST WON'T EFFIN START!! EFFITY EFFITY EFF!!!" for hours or just go in like buttah. I hope you had the latter. Wink

Glad you got to hang with Matt. That's cool right there. I can't wait for Bella to turn some wrenches with me!
