Yup. The world is all right again. I have a Garnet Red Caddy and a Pewter Sierra 2500! HA! Very Happy

Anyways, here she is this morning:

It's an 00 2500 (non-HD) Sierra SLT. Loaded. Has all options but the center console and heated seats. Same color as my last one, just has the graphite leather instead of the light grey leather. I bought it dirt cheap with a year old Minute Mount 2 plow on it because I tree fell on it on the Halloween storm. Brought it home Tuesday night. It's actually in better shape, rust wise, that my old one! And I paid a little more than half what I did for the last one! Smile

Here she is before I did a quick fix last night.

Luckily I saved the good passenger side Headlight and bumper light from my last one (which had a broken driver's side set) so I didn't have to buy new lights! I scored a brandy new chinese grill off eBay for 73 bucks SHIPPED, too! No idea how they made any money because it must have cost almost that to ship that oversized box it came in! So here it is after 73 bucks worth of parts and an hour's labor, in the snow!

Not bad. Not perfect, but not bad. Wink It'll be getting a steel cowl hood and a new fender and the bumper straightened a bit better once I sell the subaru or the plow, whichever comes first.

It also came with an extra set of 6 lug steelies and 8 lug steelies, so I have a bit more Craigslist fodder. I will be selling the plow, back rack, and side boxes too. So I will get a little bit back on what I paid for the truck that way.

I plan to add a bedliner (CL, of course!) and a set of tube steps/nerf bars. I ordered a set of seat heaters offin eBay also. Gotta de-badge it, too. It needs a few other little things, too. It needs tires, BAD! I am thinking maybe another set of H@'s because I found a chrome set near me, but I may just do some 33's on the outlaw 2 looking wheels for now, cuz it'd be cheap. lol. And the heater core seems to be plugged (will flush or replace if it doesn't work), and the windows need motors and regulators. The power mirror switch seems to be INOP too, so I will replace that if a good contact cleaning doesn't take care of it.

So there it is. The new winter ride. So stoked!

What are the steelies that came with it? That would look nice on some black Cragar Soft 8's or similar. The seat heaters just plug in? That's what I love about these trucks, it seems like so much stuff you didn't get from the factory just plugs right in if you feel like adding it. My truck came without the DIC but if I add the steering wheel with the buttons, apparently you can access all the DIC features.

I didn't know that about the wheel! If I got the wheel for mine, does that mean I could use the DIC and SWC's?

lol, the only thing I am unsure of is if it works on the 99-02 trucks. They changed a lot of little things for '03 including the steering wheel, center consoles, window and power lock buttons, radio and HVAC controls too I believe, the instrument cluster is different also.

Supposedly on my Tahoe you just add the wheel and change the clockspring and it works! At least you should have a trans drain plug, rear end drainplug, and underhood light/footwell lights. My Tahoe has none of those. I did manage to get an external fuel filter thankfully, late '03 on doesn't have a fuel filter, it's part of the pump!

Sweet ass truck. I love the Pewter GMT800s. It is my favorite color on them.

I am unsure about the hood. It looks custom, but Rain Man custom, not Boyd custom. Razz

LOL!

Actually, I scored a set of clear chrome projectors for 40 bucks shipped because the Halos didn't work. Will install tonight or tomorrow.

Just got a set of 33"(285/75/16) tires installed today because the ones that came on it were gawdawful bad!!!!! Wohwohwohwohwohwoh...

So much better now!

Gotta get out my tin snips and trim the plastics... The tires grabbed the plastic bumper valence HARD and the front of the inner fenderwells at full lock. Same as my other truck. 5 minutes with some snips and it'll be fine. I actually had the guys at NTB crank my torsion bars before I left so they wouldn't rub. Now she's got that Cali "Bulldog" stance. Boo!!!! Need to back off the TB's about 3/4" so it sits level again. D'oh! Might be adding 2" keys and 3" blocks to my list...

Pics tomorrow.

Also flushed the heater core on it this morning. Broke a plastic heater core connector. Damn. Luckily Auto Value had one! 9 bucks for the connector and special tool and I was back in bidness! Very Happy

Oh, and now I have a laundry list of crap to do since I had it in the air at the tire shop... Needs both front wheel bearing/hubs, front shocks, driver's tie rod end and an idler arm. Boo.

Still loving it though!

Those friggin eBay projectors I got this time ABSOLUTELY SUCK balls!!!! No light output and can't even get them aimed right. I must have messed with them for 3 hours tonight and I couldn't even get them close to right. They are still aimed way too high! So aggravated!!!!

HD trucks did not come out until 2001 as an upgrade over the standard 2500. HD became standard in 03.
Prior to that the HD package on the old body style 88-00 was still an option, but it was a more noticable. Hd Trucks got taller, stiffer frames.

GM had 2 versions of the 2500. A light duty 7200lb gvwr and a heavy duty 2500 8600lb gvwr. "HD" name was slapped on later to the 8600 lb trucks.

The 01 and up HDs have a taller frame rail to accomodate the Allison transmission and I believe the hood bulge was for a bigger radiator on at least the 8.1s, but not all HDs got Allisons or 8.1s of course. The 99-00s had some weird/rare transition year features I believe, I've heard people say you could get an 8 lug 1500 or six lug 2500, but I have never actually seen one and it could be BS.

Bill, if you get keys, make sure you add longer shocks (Bilstein 5100s rated for a couple inches of lift) and get that thing aligned or the tires will get ruint, mangg!

So today was a productive day. Went to Doug's place early this morning and delivered the plow. He removed it and then we went to breakfast. Got an intake for the Caddy and seats for the Marshmallow, too! Thanks Doug, you rock! Smile Got to see my old truck, too. Couldn't convince him to sell me the H2 wheels though! lol

Then I came home and replaced both window regulator assemblies (WAY easier than I was expecting) and front speakers. Now my windows go up and down again!!!!!! Very Happy And I also did plugs and wires. I gotta say, that's probably the easiest tune up I've ever done on a V8. 45 minutes start to finish!

Ordered my hood and black projectors tonight. Smile

Man, I love this effin truck.

I think Crovo is losing his mind because of how easy it is to work on an American Vehicle again.

Nice to see you today man, the truck is nice, I want those dark leather seats! I think you know what needs to be done with that truck, I'd hate to question your manhood.

Thanks for the steel wheels, I think they will be saveable and should look nice with some paint and pizza cutters on them.

Thanks For breakfast too, I felt like a pretty girl on a nice date, you were such a gentleman

Doug

So I did a little more work to it today after work. I finally took off those gawdawful side boxes and wood rails! Looks SO much better! (As a side note, I totally heart my DeWalt cordless impact!) I actually decided to keep the back rack. I think it'll come in handy when picking up lumber. It was dark when I finished, so sorry, no pics. They will come shortly.

It's actually starting to look like MY truck now. Diggit. Smile

And since I absolutely HATE the stock taillights, and haven't yet found a set of 05+ Silverado lights yet, I decided to try to tint my spare set of lights from the last truck. I decided to do it right for a change. I sanded them with 800 and then wiped them down with wax and tar remover. Then I dried it off, and waited for them to be completely dry. I sprayed 2 coats of VHT Nite Shades and then 4 coats of clear. But the VHT cracked when it dried? WTF?!?!?!? I was so pissed! Oh well, I cleared it anyways. Four coats and it's still not shiny. Boo! So much for doing it right... Rolling Eyes I'm going to put them on anyways, because they still look better than the stockers...

Anyways, here are the pics. They look darker than they actually are.

Ok, so I'm looking for opinions on my bed rail caps. The rails have a bunch of holes drilled in them from what the PO had mounted up there before, so they need to be covered. The bed is all beat up inside, too, so I'm just going to use a few cans of spray liner and call it good enough. But the front of the bed, against the cab, is Diamond plate. I kind of dig it, so I'm going to leave it. So now I see that I have 3 options for the rails. Do I mask and paint them with the bedliner like the rhino liner guys do? Do I get the plastic bed rail caps to match the top of the tailgate? Or do I get diamond plate ones? If I do get the DP ones, then I will get one for the tailgate to match, too. I'm leaning towards the diamond plate this time...

Here's a pic of the bed so you can see the diamond plate I was talking about:

(remember, those boxes are gone now)

So what do you think on that?
