Just wondering if any of you guys know any good mechanics around Salem or Beverly?
my dad has always used NorthEast AutoLabs. I plan on using them as well, but figured I'd ask before I called them.
Need to get my fuse box repaired... don't want to do it myself... I always tend to set things like that on fire.

Not sure what you'll be doing, but I've tried to access that before & it wasnt easy.
Are you doing something specific or trying to make the car brand new?

Edit: In response to your ? No, I dont know anyone in that area.
Matter of fact, I wouldnt give my car to ANYONE with that request.

one of the pins in the fuse box for the blower motor seems to be missing. Paul never saw this and neither did his dad, so we can only assume it was some mickey mouse job from before them.

It looks as if it was simply jumped over without a fuse... this screams "dash fire" in my book... especially on a 20A service like the blower motor.

I would rather have this fixed properly then have my car catch on fire.

The only solution I can picture myself doing is jumping it with an inline fuse... but even then, I don't like the idea of that. I'd rather have that socket fixed if possible...

Its just such a bitch to get behind.
I would never talk you out of doing things right, just pointing out it isnt easily accessed.
Werent you pulling your dash apart anyway?

I haven't yet.
I also have big hands... putting in these tiny fuses is difficult for me... much less working behind it.

If anyone has any safe solutions for this, let me know. I'll consider it, but not having any heat or AC right now kinda sucks...

FYI, some of the sockets are empty from the factory.
I'll see if I can get you a pic, just in case your worried for nothing
I understand you must know what your looking at.
I just remember looking & saying WTF, why is it like that?

right, but this is the blower motor fuse socket. There's a pin in the bottom, but not in the top, so when you install the fuse, the bottom is connected but the top is not touching anything.

It looks like maybe someone jumped it to another pin in an unpopulated socket.

Did you get your manual yet?
I was just looking at it & it appears it might come out the front (I didnt know that)
There are clips in the plastic that look like they free up the center where all the fuses are
I've got to start looking stuff up in the future.

EDIT: Sorry to azz up your question with 20 useless responses. I'll stop now

So I need to get someone to look at this. It's a bad leak on the passenger side. I can't get the time to do it myself.
Is there a good b-body mechanic who is familiar with fixing these?

If you're going to own one of these B bodies, you have to learn to fix it. If you can't, having someone maintain and fix that car will cost you plenty. Fixing these cars, is part of the fun of owning it.

You may have made a mistake in buying it.

This time of year is always tough for me to get stuff done on cars, and I need working heat and defrosting going into the cold months.

That being said, I had no problem paying someone else to fix my Audi S6 when I got to the point of not having time to turn my own wrench... and you can imagine how much that cost me.

Most domestic mechanics are significantly cheaper than Audi shops... as are the parts.

So, I really don't mind spending some money to make sure it's done right and done quickly. I just need to get it done.

In the end I'm still saving money.
keeping an S6 on the road with a value of $6500 and having it cost me $1000-2500 a year to keep running for the less than 4000 miles a year I do was silly (keeping in mind that I did about 75% of my own work on it)
Keeping the RMW on the road will be cheaper no matter which way you cut it.
I'm already into the car for $1800... if I have to spend $400 to get it in shape, I'm not opposed to that. I just don't want to have to be constantly chasing down a leak. Especially right before winter.
At this point I don't have a free weekend on my calendar until January...

........Very wise words from a very wise man Arrow

..... there is an excellent B Body mechanic in the Nashua NH area....... but if you ain't serious about getting it done and dont have $$$$$$ then I'm not giving contact info ( after his approval) ..... he does great work, knows his GM's and has awesome rates.

...... but he is a busy guy so I don't want to waste his time

While I would love to spend time fixing this myself, I have every weekend from now until late January booked up with family stuff.
Not having a working blower motor is a safety issue because I can't defog my windows.
I'm going to try to bring it to my local guy first.

I'm not opposed to wrenching on things myself but I need my car working safely going into the winter. Last year my car was ou of commission the entire winter getting the turbo rebuilt. I'd like to have a car this winter.

Blower motor takes about a half hour to replace. Very easy, just three 7mm or 9/32" screws, and a plug, and shes out. cheers

yeah, I just need to find the leak that killed the first one and that's what I'm having trouble with
I don't want to jam another blower in there and have it die again.
