| I noticed the throttle in my new car seems stiff to push down. And with 283,000 miles, I thought the cats were plugged or something. But now I am thinking either the linkage on the tb, or the cable itself. Is there a common problem in this area? |

Sorry... This is a vehicle specific question. Year, make, model? | |

| Nice find Bill!
If it has that many miles on it and still gets stiff, that is a good thing!

| Thanks Tom. That made me laugh. Now I am positive it is not the throttle linkage. Checked it today and it seems fine. This brings me to another conclusion. Is it possible that with the miles and age, the cats and mufflers are clogged. That is how it feels, like It is pushing against something. Hell it wont even spin the tires on wet pavement. Just not sure. Never dealt with this before. So I am stumped. |

| Bill, looks like a pretty straight car. Other than the little bit of rust on the fenders and the hood the body looks real good. I can picture it in satin black. I see you are selling the seats what are you going to install instead? I hope you keep this longer than the RMS, your next one will be another wagon.

Tom C. Thank you Tom It is very straight, and surprisingly not nearly the amout of rust I thought. The underside is not bad at all. The rms with just 116k on it was worse. I am looking for a set of light grey Bonneville seats. I remembered the one thing I do not like about impala ss seats. If you turn to hard, and it does not take much mind you. You wind up slamed against the door, or center console. This is the last B-body I will ever buy. I am keeping this one for a very long time. I have no intrest in getting rid of it. |

| From what I remember, the throttle always seemed stiff on that car. I'm not certain if it's something that happened gradually over time. I'm pretty sure the throttle body seemed to open & close freely, and if the throttle cable is free that would rule both of them out. With the amount of miles, I wouldn't be surprised if the cats were clogged. Better yet, maybe it's some form of phantom traction control that we're all unaware of. | |

It is funny you said that Chris. That is how it feels. And it reminded me of my fleetwood which had T/C. I am pretty sure now that it is the cats that have failed and may have taken the exhaust with it. But on the up side. It is an excuse to upgrade. |

So I am stumped. has the car been sitting? maybe it is the calipers. mine sat for almost 3 years and felt the way you described like i was pushing something down the road. it ended up having sticking calipers. As far as I know it was a daily driver and It recent brakes. I have had sticky brakes, this is something else. I am going to look into the brake thing. There may be some substance to this after all. | Bill Saw this on another site: - Quote :
- My new RMW also has this problem. I did some asking around and a GM mechanic said to check the throttle body for carbon builld up. This is a common cause of a stiff accelerator pedal. Pick up some intake cleaner and this should go away... "

| Current update Here is a list of things changed or checked. 1. Both cats 2. Exhaust 3. Opti, cap and rotor 4. Plugs (NGK TR55) 5. Wires (JEGS F-body wire kit) 6. Coil/ICM 7. Throttle body 8. Mass Air Flow sensor 9. W/P temp sensor 10. cleaned IAC. The throttle no longer feels like it is stiff. But it went away after the cats, (which were clogged) and the plugs and wires. So with everything working correctly, I discovered the transmission slips off the line a bit. Just enough for the car not to spin the tires if I punch it. Other than that it runs like a raped ape. Coming home from mod day I got on it a couple times, and she moved like she was new. Not to shabby for a drivetrain with 285k on it. If I had the funds, I would put a six speed in her. But maybe at least a CPT level 1 will come. The engine feels so strong. I can't get over the fact the milage, and the fact that the trans maybe the only bad spot of the whole drivetrain. Hell, even the posi works. |

| Awesome!!! Hey Bill, test out the posi next time the pavement is wet. Try spinning the tires when making a right turn and a left turn. It may slip in one direction but not the other. Just something to take a look at with the mileage on it. | |

Just something to take a look at with the mileage on it. It will not spin either direction. We have a stop on a hill, where you have to go right only. I can make anything spin at that stop because you are stopped right on the hill with the vehicle aimed up. Another place I am able to test going left. Nothing. I know the posi works, because if I hold the brake it will brake stand. If funds and my bride would allow, I would T-56 it and forget it. She can't drive manual or 55. |
