| As many know I am attempting to buy a 96 fleetwood. I am having a problem registering this thing and am looking for any advice, or if someone has done this, what needs to be done. The seller can't find the title for this car, he is the original owner of it. I had him fill out a form from the DMV for selling a car without title, got it notarized and all that crap. Took it to the DMV and they show there was a lien on the car. The title would reflect it has been paid, but now they need proof of this! I poke to him, he said he paid it off years ago. The DMV said I can get a copy of the release from the bank, but that doesn't sound right to me. I have been having no luck getting a hold of the seller, so want to try to get this thing myself. Anyone know what I should do to try to get it? I got the bank name so that's a start. | |

| Go to the bank, see way they say. They would have to have a form showing the release of the car, if they still have it. | |

| Buy a different car? Sounds like some BS going down. If it was paid off he would have no problem getting the release from the bank for you, I doubt you will be able to get any info from a bank regarding anyone other than yourself. I'd move along.

...... hook line and sinker. He got the car from a buddy who owed him $$$. The buddy gave him the caddy to clear his debt and avoid the bank from taking the lac. ....... ......... When was the last time the car was registered?

| Sounds like he never had the title at all. Did you already go get it? It's in your possession? | |

| Its currently registered to him, I have his registration form. I ran it autocheck through ebay, shows 2 owners and 2 titles. First is from new until 36k miles. Next is from then on until now. I assume the lease or whatever it was ran up at 36k and the new title was after the bank signed it over. The towns listed on the report check out with the story he gave me of when he lived where. The car is not in my possession yet. I have the keys, notarized sale without title form and bill of sale. I paid cash. I hope I'm not being taken for a ride here, but it kind of feels that way. I'm going away tomorrow through the weekend. If I don't hear anything from him before I get back I'm going to stop by for a little visit. Anyone have a vin and title for sale LOL | |

| I agree with Glen. Go to the bank and talk to someone up the food chain there. Tell the person the story and ask if they can help you. Bring your paperwork. They may not want to give you too much info, but they should be able to tell you if there is a lean on the car. The car is 15 years old, I would say the percentages are with you that there is no lean of the car. If the person is reluctant to help, ask for the person in charge.
Good Luck, see you in a couple of days.

Tom If only the bank the DMV named didn't have the crappiest hours ever. That may be worth a try, I have docs signing this thing over to me, maybe someone can help me. I don't doubt its been paid off, what kind of lender wouldn't have repo'd this thing by now. From seeing this guy's yard I am betting he is extremely lazy.

| Why doesn't he just go get a duplicate title? Cost $50... Offer to pay for it.
If it doesn't pan out I would still be interested in it as a parts car. I don't care about a title. I'd also take it with cash as a trade for my Goldie brougham if interested. And I DO have a title.

I looked into the duplicate title, this damn state still requires a lien release even though I'm sure they know its been paid off over a decade ago.
