Is that a complete running engine or do you have a rebuild-able block?

Stupid question, but can this be used in a TBI car?

I think as long as you can get a knock sensor in it you should, not sure if all blocks accept them though. That would be a question for one of the more experienced guys. Machine De-Zine where are you!? Question

This block will work in a tbi car, you have to swap the intake and use the accessory brackets from the tbi car. I don't think the 91-93 have knock sensors. A gen1 block should be all the same.

My 91 has one knock sensor, I think it was on the PS side, DS had just a plug in the block.

My 93 TBI 350 Blazer had a knock sensor, but that's a truck block, which I know uses no roller cam like the car TBIs, but I'm assuming is otherwise the same for the most part?

Yes, you can TBI this block, the sensor will thread right into the water-jacket drain hole.

The things to beware of though have to do with quality.
I avoid blocks cast in Mexico, they are thin walled & weak, also the iron metallurgy is usually suspect.
It should have a two piece rear main seal, no provisions for OEM hydraulic roller cam (after 86-87), Passenger side dip-stick location . . get the correct oil pan.
If it is a four bolt main, it will have the tiny pipe plug above the timing cover, and it may have come out of a truck or a corvette. Truck blocks are no problem.
The 39700101 blocks that I like are the early ones marked 010 & 020 inside the timing cover area, because they have excellent nickel & tin alloyed into the iron.
I would also check to see if it would "clean-up" at 4.030" over bore. If its already 030 over, it better have been done right & have good pistons/rings in it already.
Since the head bolts are already out, that would be easy to check. If you plan to make decent HP, it should be sonic-checked for thrust side thickness at least.
The block should be pressure checked for cracks in the cooling system, as it may have been frozen in it's past. I would Magnaflux the block, rods and crank.
Too many questions arise as to it's past, so I would disassemble the whole thing to check EVERY-thing. But, costs start to pile up quickly!

Late 96 G30 vans had basically an L05 with L31 heads on them, instead of those terrible "swirl-port" disasters!
With those L31 heads and a retro hyd-roller cam in it, you would have a nice piece! (L31 ports are identical to LT-1 94-97).

OR, you could just get gaskets, wash & assemble it, and take your chances. Prawly better than 50/50 odds it'll be OK, and for low money out-lay.

Holy crap! I understood everything! Laughing But seriously, thanks for the info. Things to think about here... Chances are I'll have to rebuild my rear end (or find someone who can), or buy Crovo's before I can do any engine swaps. Regardless of how good a deal this is. My current motor runs fine and the car is still a daily driver. That also said, will this motor have the same 180 horse/ 300 ft/lb torque as my current 350?
