Align front end
oil change
Align headlights and possibly upgrade bulbs. I don't suppose there's any projector headlights for these cars? Stock lights are REALLY dim.
Clean interior and spray bomb (smokers)
detail exterior. See if I can cut some gloss into the paint.
Install a radio (no CD player and the tape deck is jammed)
secure drivers side door panel (seems like it's missing some clips or a bolt or something, it moves when you open the door.)
re-attach cowl piece (in the trunk for some reason)
spare driver's side mirror in the trunk, need to figure out if there's a problem there
Shifter stalk has no spring to it... loose and floppy. is this fixable?
Engine has all the stock intake parts. I see people remove the 'home plate' and the baffle between the throttle and the MAF. is there a write up for this? what does it accomplish? Is it wise to do a cone filter or is the stock box fine?
Do a brake stand... just to try Wink

Other questions:
after the car is shut off, there's a pump running somewhere in the engine bay for 5 minutes after I shut it down. Paul thought it was the air pump for the suspension? Is this normal or does this indicate a leak?

I didnt think it was the air compressor, I know it is. This is normal due to a leaking shock(as I explained). It wont kill the battery, you could either replace the shocks with new air shocks, or simply unplug the compressor. Drivers mirror is cracked in half(the outer housing) as I showed you, I bought that black mirror off 96slowss to replace it, just never got around to it..

You can delete home plate with a hockey puck, and build yourself an intake out of pvc piping from Lowes. Throw a cone filter on there and youre good to go! I did this on my blue Fleetwood, plenty of write-ups out there..

Oh ok. Is this going to affect ride quality? I don't really know much about the air shocks on these cars... are they additional shocks or are they the standard shocks with air assist?

Oh, I saw you point to that. I could probably just epoxy it so I don't need to paint it. I'll keep it just in case

Is it worth it? are there any benefits (aside from more induction noise)?

I just bought my new radio. What should I be getting to install it?
do I need something like this?
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9724_Scosche-GM1590AB-GM1590A.html

I know I need a wiring harness for it (because I hate cutting up stock harnesses to install radios)

also, is there a fixed aerial option for these? the power one is stuck up (at least it's up) but I wanted to just get a regular whip aerial.

I'd like to order the radio stuff today so I can install it on the weekend if possible.

USE A GLASS CANDLE TOP... I did for a while the hockey puck looks more "stock" if thats what your going for, but if you use the candle top it smells like christmas trees everywhere you go Rolling Eyes and unless you want to pony up for a K&N or better yet the Rammit or RAISS intakes the PVC lowes intake is the best dollar for dollar intake upgrade car sounds better and is a little snappier if you keep you foot out of it you should pick up an mpg I went from 15.7 over a tank to about 16.8 with "spirited" driving

yeah, low dollar is the only way to go
I'm going to Home Depot tonight for some stuff.

I saw some people running 'caps' instead of hockey pucks. Sad to say, as a former hockey player, I have no pucks at my house! but I will be going to Home Depot, so what size cap is it? I'll just grab one while I'm there
That write up mentions a straight piece of 3" PVC, but I saw other people using angled pieces. I thought I saw a write up somewhere else, but I can't find it now.

I had a question about the giant mechanical fan. I know this is part of the tow pack, but is it 'necessary'?
it's REALLY loud...
Could I remove it and replace it with twin electric fans? I think I have some slim fans in a box somewhere...

You could probably get the radio harness cheap at AZ or Advanced, maybe even wally world. The power antenna on those you need to remove the fender I'm pretty sure, but if you really want to get rid of it I know a few guys have done that fix/swap.

the PVC is worth it because it's fun! Get something that can handle High Pressure, they can also handle high heat.

I posted a video a few weeks ago about a whole radio swap to a stock style Ipod ready radio in a roadmaster, really cool. Maybe you'd like to do that instead as it plugs into the stock harness. The guys user name is saabkyle04 or something. You could probably find the link if you search all of my posts or something like that.

EDIT: theres a write up for the fans somewhere

oh ok. Yeah, I guess this isn't really a 'special car' in terms of getting install parts... there's a first.

What parts do I need though? Do I need the double DIN install kit? I know I need the GM wiring harness (think I'll just hook the wires, solder and shrink wrap them this time rather than using the more elaborate Metra Smart Harness

Yeah, I don't need to do it right now. Just an idea for later.

Ok. It mentions having to mount the airbox at an angle in the write up. I guess a piece of 3" PVC is cheap enough to just give is a try without using the 'elbows' method.

I already bought this:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_33387_JVC-KW-AVX840.html

I haven't had a 'good radio' in a LONG time.
I have this awesome 10" CDT sub with an Alpine 400W amp in a simple box in my basement that I never got to install in my Audi... I can't wait to wire it up again. It's small and removable, but it hits pretty clear. I would eventually like to integrate it into the car so it doesn't need to be in a standing box.

Should I be trolling the Impala SS Forum for these writeups?

I already know that EVERY question I have about these cars has been answered somewhere... it's just a matter of compiling the questions (which I'm doing here) so I can go and check where I'm at with it as I go along.

Oh, I know the other thing I wanted to talk about: I'd like to get a keyless entry remote. This didn't come with one. Paul said I could buy one and reprogram it.

Today I nearly left the car unlocked as I was heading to the train. I locked the driver's door, expecting the entire car to lock (like my old car) and ran to the train... then I realized it only locks the driver door... so I had to run back, unlock the driver door, hit the 'lock doors' button on the door and then haul ass to the train...

I dont know much about the fob but that is a nice radio! If I had a double DIN i'd want something like that.

The SS forum is something ive never visited, and from the rep. it has I dont want to lol. But a lot of the good tech is on there according to the guys i've met on this site.

If you were to do the PVC tube I would just stick a cone on the end and ditch the stock box, maybe there is a better reason to keep it but it would seem like the cone is the way to go.

How's the build quality? any leaking or condensation? I'm always concerned about that with ebay lights.
what bulbs do they take? I get my HIDs from a friend for dirt cheap ($30 with ballasts)

Generation 1 airbags scare me... so I wouldn't mind removing it. I'd just need to silence any airbag dummy lights if they arise.

I wish it was a touch up job, but the leather is actually peeling off raw.

Pvc intake. Two 45's and you're good. Drill out the stock airbox (swiss cheese mod)

Gm double din install kit and harness. Tit.

Get the ebay lights, but skip the 6k's. They suck. They look cool, but the 4500k is closer to sunlight color and works way batter.

I have my stock wheel. Sem it and you're gtg.

Door panel is an easy fix.

You can get replacement transmitters on ebay cheap. Programming is tit.

Dual fans is easy. Get a primary fan, radiator hold down, and wiring from a sedan/non tow pack car and swap it in. Pcm already programmed to run it. I used gary's harness and it is the balls.

Shocks... Go to autozone and get the gabriel hd shocks for a 9c1. 20 bucks a piece, lifetime warranty, and they ride very close to the bilsteins.

Sounds like you have a busy weekend. Wink

How do you join the two? Plastic weld?

any better than others or just whatever?

I normally use a 5200K but at 55W instead of 35W. That shifts the color more into a pure white due to the extra voltage.

SEM?

Cool. when I go to pull the door shut, I feel like I'm going to yank the panel off entirely.

Might go yard diving for that. after winter though.

LOL. $20 shocks... awesome. Coilovers for my S6 were $2800... When swapping to regular shocks, do you need to remove any air lines or the compressor?

Does unplugging the old wheel make an airbag light go on? and if it does can it be defeated?

Bring it with you and if I can make it, I'll probably grab it
The spring is probably broken.
You can replace it without disassembling the entire steering column.
The instructions are in any FSM for B bodies......
Not sure the instructions are in the $65 Ebay manuals. Laughing

You have probably figured it out, but although he means well, listening to Fred Kiehl for advice can be dangerous. He answer many questions, regardless if he knows the answers.

these are the manuals I bought. That's the official Factory Service Manual, right?

I guess I just need to know what the part# is for the spring.

Yes, those are them...
just a bad joke on my part....
goes like this...

You reference expensive manual price...$200+
I say sometimes you can get them cheaper $80-$90 but just buy them
You get a tip...Ebay $65=score.

You have something to look up in said manual..
I say the CHEAP one doesnt have that info...

awww....nevermind Smile

As Tom pointed out, better check your FSM yourself.
I've never done this (or tried)

Got the Cowl piece on today. no more sponge in the HVAC intake... that should alleviate a majority of the musty smell.

Need to try to do the radio this weekend.
