Silverado SS? Empty
PostSubject: Silverado SS?   Silverado SS? EmptySat Sep 17, 2011 11:48 pm

Any thoughts on the 2003/2004 Silverado SS? I realize I keep changing what Im looking for, but Im in the market for a family oriented vehicle that's still BADASS geek . No minivans or Hondas here!(no offense fisher) I keep seeing some on craigslist for $10k-$13k. Maybe theres some dealership guys that can help out? I dont really want an old TBI car anymore, too old. My '96 9C1 will do for now, and my '87 Monte SS isn't economical by any standard and will not become a DD. So, Im going to have to spend the money loan wise at some point. Its all between Silverado SS, 2000 something GTO, or Crown Victoria LX sport, or 2003 Mercury Marauder.

Well it certainly wouldn't be economical, but I like them. TBSS would be better, unless you need a truck..

The trail blazers are very nice, not out of the question, but its time for a pickup. The wife likes pickups too, so its a winning situation. True on the gas thing. As far as the monte being unecomical, its old, its a dinosaur with no comfort or safety options. But I'm not going to slump around like everyone else being beat by the economy and buying small crap cars. I understand that people here on the forum have made the small car thing work, its just not my style. I'd rather eat my gun than drive a Honda, suburu, croutwagen or whatever. I'm going to enjoy my money.

I have both a Crown Vic and a Grand Marquis, very reliable, comfortable, and safe. The get up to 25 MPG and are easy to repair. Downside, I wouldn't exactly call them stylish and they are pretty basic; not a whole lot of bells and whistles. I would probably get another one, but would probably be some resistance from my wife. Like I told her, I don't care what she buys for couches or dishes and I'll take care of the cars. For those who are married know it doesn't always work that way.

Most used SS 1500 are beat and over priced, ( cause it says SS people feel its super rare truck) Surprised

Getting parts for these trucks takes for ever , a lot of aftermarket products out there but stock stuff is hard to come across.
The only advantage for a DD during winter is the AWD.

You can get a 5.3L 1500 for a fraction of the cost with 4x4 (even better is the z71 package !!!)
It comes with all the bells and whistles as an SS. There are more budget mods and stock parts are dime a dozen. In the end you can get a 5.3 to be just a fast as an SS , not to mention you can dress up the 1500 like an SS or tahoe or Avalanche or escalade in a weekend.

Most SS with the centrifugal supercharger are nothing but repeat headaches and failure. ( from what I've seen @ the chevy dealership)
With the 1500 you will be happy with the power and performance, and there are plenty of small mods and upgrades you can do over the weekends to take care of that itch. Even more so putting a bigger motor in a 1500 or diesel swap isnt to hard to achieve either. Ask AL about his 05 Silverado 1500 LS .... Twisted Evil ( wicked lil truck that runs with the SS) .

.... plus there is video out there of a guy in a cadillac destroying an SS Like a Star @ heaven

and good for you buddy. IM the same way. If Im spending money on a car I want something I like and that will make me happy, Ive tried the lil car thing over and over. Never works for me. So I spend my $$$ on shit I like .

You are better off with a standard 1500 with the 5.3. The awd system, along with the 6.0 = poor fuel economy. A 1500 with 4wd and 5.3 or even the 4.8 can see 20+mpg hwy, and if a lowered sport truck is what you desire, just check out Al's 05 1500.
An LT packaged 1500 has the same fetures as a SS version.
Another option would be a 03-07 2500 with the duramax/allison combo.

Another vote for a non-SS pickup. They are cool trucks, but for what they are, you can get a great deal on an extended cab short bed and make it how you want it. The 5.3 is ridiculous, after driving my Tahoe when I get back in the Caprice I'm like WTF? Even with 3.73s and going 75 on the highway, I still avg. 16-17 MPG over a whole tank. It would be higher if I went 65 or under and did less city driving!
