| Do they make them for the 91-96? If so, would they be a direct fit on a box? Cant find anything for 77-90 anywhere, but going to try GM tomorrow, but that will end in disappointment im certain of it! | |

Well thanks for the response! didn't end up calling a dealer, had to spend 5 hours with a friend as my arms using a sawz-all to get my rear shocks out on the cougar! Originals.... What are you using on Matts impala? Or did you never actually separate the body and frame?

I was also unable to find year and model specific body bushings or mounts for my 1988 box several years ago. The dealer WAS able to get me 9C1 bushings (a complete set) for a 1991-1996, so I took a chance that they would fit, and they DID fit (and also rode) perfectly. I'm sure you have seen and read this Mueller page. http://indipalass.com/ARCHIVE/TechCorner/ARTICLES/Enhanced%20Body%20Mounts.htm Problem is, that even these 1991-1996 bushings have also become unavailable, and for some time now. Here is an example of what used to be available, http://www.rmsautoparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=457915 The only difference that might concern anybody is the hardness vs softness issue, but I don't know anybody that has wanted or preferred the OEM passenger car "softies". Also, be aware of how deeply the bolts go up into the body cavity, too long and they will possibly bottom out in the sheet metal floor structure. And, the early model cars (1970s) were 7/16" coarse thread and the newer cars became metric. http://www.rmsautoparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=3524497 Some current options are: 1) Search the internet for someone who has an original set for sale. 2) Buy and install the energy suspension set. http://www.energysuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=3%2E4145 3) Make your own set out of aftermarket rubber bushings intended for various other applications based on matching up the heights and diameters. 4) Make your on set from scratch (out of nylon or aluminum for example). 5) I am going to try using these solid bushings on my 9C1, http://pro-touringf-body.com/chassis_components.html If you decide to try to locate the 91-96 9C1 bushings, let me know and I will provide all the OEM part numbers. If you are interested in the solid bushings from pro-touring-fbody, let me know and we can do a small group purchase, and I will "science" it out for a perfect fit.

I have the 3.4136 in the 96 & its a little hard. May be a suspension issue & have nothing to do with the mounts. I figured I'd use Matts car as the guinea pig. Wont know until it hits the road.....someday within the next year. The harder duro 3.4136 comes complete with the front 3 lowers (NO bolts either). The 3.4145 comes with core supports but without front 3 lowers. http://www.energysuspension.com/assets/files/2010-energy-suspension-catalog.pdf Pg 30 (says 29 of 76) I know what extra bushings you need to get if you want the ES front 2 lowers. I used the Mueller lowers because I jumped on a couple of sets before they disappeared. - Machine-De-Zine wrote:

| thanks or all of the info guys! I think that I would like to use the 91-96 9C1 bushings as I want it to be as stock as i can get it. Mueller seems like he has the right idea and I want to do that with my caprice. I don't intend to race the car, just drive it, so I don't know if the F-body solid mounts or the energy suspension mounts are the right ones for me. But if I can't get hold of the 91-96 mounts I will resort to the energy suspension first. Steve maybe when the time comes you can be there for when the body is separated from the frame just for a little guidance from someone who has done it before, but that wont happen for another month or so I don't think. I think anyone can figure out by now that I am doing a frame swap and nose job, that might tell you the extent of the damage from last Thursday night. The cowl is fine but I have to pull out my parts car doors! I wont be putting up pics until insurance is all settled. thank you all for info and help with sorting out the parts that I will be needing. Glen, those RMS links show the parts out of stock. What would be my luck getting them anywhere else? I will call a local dealer and ask for both stock 87 mounts and the 91-96 9c1 mounts as well. If you have the OEM part numbers ready for me I will gladly take them! Thanks again! donor: | |

| I'll see if I can find the prices for the stock mounts I think the soft ES will be fine (and a good $ savings) but thats your call. Happy to help when the time comes. Until you try it you wont know if it'll be easy or not. Many years usually causes a couple of big problems. | |

That many years usually causes a couple of big problems. thank you. I want to research and see what the availability of the the GM parts are, then I will go to ES. I just have to gather all of the parts I can right now so that I can try to get ahead of the game while I wait for insurance and my shoulder, can't tell which one will take longer

| Spend a little time reading this thread.
http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=228460
Take some notes on what you find there.
Remember that any body-mount that works on the 91-96 B-bodies, works just the same on the boxy cars you have.
My attitude toward the solid body bushing solution has a good foundation, It has worked for me in the past.
The first one "made solid" was my all iron big block chevy powered, Doug Nash 5 speed 1970 Monte Carlo.
I just made solid blocks out of 3.5" diameter teflon bar stock, and the car rode very nicely! There were other cars I had that responded as well.
Its a bit like converting the car into a "uni-body" type-construction, which obviously works very well for all the best modern cars made today.
It simply has to be done with certain precautions to prevent unwanted results in NVH and you should also be careful to avoid hitting curbs at 45 mph.
The only time I had any regrets was when I fitted up some home-made rear lower control arms using solid Heim-joints, and it RATTLED like HELL!
You will find on an older car that the dash will start making noises that previously didn't exist.
I was able to remove and reinstall the entire dash, HVAC box (with associated components), and other loose interior pieces to put an end to the noises.

What damage was done to the car?

What damage was done to the car? Yeah they really are! If I was in the cougar I wouldn't have been so lucky. I put the car in park shut it off hazzards on and walked out with a sore shoulder! Turned out to be a broken collar bone (minor break!) but I didnt feel it right away, I dented the drivers door when I slid into it! everything ahead of the cowl is demolished other than the engine*but I still have to find that out* it ran after she hit me. Probably could have driven away on three wheels! lol the frames is....BENT...but the body is FINE! so in comes the red car that is waiting to be cut up anyway. Guess I will have it a while longer! And thats the point of this thread, which will probably turn into the body off thread for the two door!

| Not sure your plans for the donor but drilling to access & pc blasting the bolts cant hurt. Taking out the wheelwells really help with #1-3 | |

Taking out the wheelwells really help with #1-3 Drilling?? I planned on taking the car apart before we take the frame anyway. front clip comes off, cut the good quarter to have just in case, int., doors, glass, trim, etc. etc. then unbolting the rest and just rolling it off the frame

| Just for fun, try the bolts OK it wont be fun but whateva My guess is some we'll have to go in from the top (drilling) #4 is a 1/8 hole in the sill. #6 & 7 is hole saw. Thats assuming you dont want to just breakem off & call it a deal | |
