| 96 Caddy Fleetwood
Had a long crank for a while, finally had non start 2 days ago. Brought it into work, replaced the pump. Got it all back together, still no start. Checked the fuse, relay, jumper wire to the pump, power/ ground on the connection to the sending unit. All were good, jumper wire wouldn't turn pump on.
So, took e tank down again today. Replaced the sending unit as it had a burnt connector at the top(in that 4 prong connector). Tested it ion the ground, pump shot out fuel. Not far, I'm not sure how much it should spray out of the line, but it shot probably 8 inches. Didn't look like a lot though?
So back in it went. Got the car down, STILL no start. WTF.
Tech under the car said he heard the pump running. Couldn't hear it going through the rails or anything though.
So, what else? Car will run all day long if I spray carb cleaner through the air intake.
Weak pump even though new? Clogged fuel filter?
I'm at a loss.. Any help is appreciated.. Thanks guys

| There was no pressure at the intake. Could not hear fuel coming into the engine while jumping the pump test lead. | |

| Jumping the pump test lead will only activate the pump. It will not engage the injectors. You will only here the injectors if the engine is running, but with the key in the on position, without start, you should here the pump prime for 2 seconds. If you have no guage to work with, push the schrader valve in to relieve pressure, then prime the pump again, and see if you have pressure back at the schrader valve. This could be a spark issue as well. Maybe the coil, or ICM. It could be a failed PCM as well. |

| On my caprice when I jump the test lead I can hear the fuel coming into the engine bay.
This Fleetwood started right up ran fine with starting fluid. We had a guage on the schrader valve. It showed no pressure before during or after cranking. We are thinking the new pump is defective. Plenty of fuel in the tank.

| Sounds like the flex line is split & pisses hard when the pump feels back pressure while trying to pressurize the line. If the sender is new though that shouldnt be the case. | |

| What's the pressure supposed to be at the rail?
Billy, I don't think it's PCM or icm related. Ran totally fun on carb cleaner, fired right up and idled perfect. It seems like fuel delivery issue..

| Pressure should be around 40psi I've never run a pump outside the tank to see how hard it pushes

| If you can hear the pump, but no pressure, I would look at the clear hose at the sending unit to the pump, as Steve mentioned to make sure it has no cracks in it and is connected correctly. I would also look at the fuel filter. I have seen them so clogged, that no fuel got past them. But it was on a carbed car, not EFI. |
