Thanks guys! So far, I'm digging it. Just need to figure out how to clear the oxidation on the dishes to really get them to pop.

Kehd, it looks wicked nice d00d! Get some tiyah shine and scrub yah lettahs!

Where did you get the caps? eBay? Someday I'd like to try body color painted but wider steel wheels on my old Impala with those caps, they came standard on the '74s...mine came with the "optional" full wheel covers.

My last one had body color bright green wheels so I wondered if it originally had these. I should have made the guy who wound up with it give me the wheels back, because I'm pretty sure they had the nubs.

Scored them at the Stafford swap meet. Happened to walk by this trailer with a shitload of GM hubcaps outside and lo and behold, a stack of 6 of them. $5 each. Stupidly, I only bought 4 as two were dented but looking back, I should have bought all 6 to have some spares.  Surprised

It's a spring/fall thing. They post the dates on their website www.staffordspeedway.com. There's also a much larger one in the fall in Thompson CT. Their site is www.thompsonspeedway.com. Would be cool do to a group trip for sure  Arrow

It says the big one at the Thompson Speedway is Nov. 1st and 2nd...the Ty-Rods swap meet is on Oct. 19th..I'd be down for either I think...the latter may interfere with any Badass Roundup though...lol

Not sure yet. I'm still clinging to my TBI like a Luddite. Laughing

And it'd be at least the 2nd turbo V6 wagon. Grumpy was #1 I think.

Also, wagon got a care package yesterday. Right after Billy's cookout, things will be happening.

So an important lesson for anyone considering Rust Shield. Don't use Rustoleum "rusty metal" primer as a base. RS will bubble off causing you a hours worth of scraping to get most of it off.  Rolling Eyes

Minus the RS I wasted, and the hour I spent scraping, no real loss. I stripped *most* of it off, going to try a test patch today. If not, I'm going to send it out to get sandblasted and I'll really start fresh  Shocked

Anything with rust in the name usually is the base coat that is applied to bare metal, not on top of a primer. It can't do it's job if it is not in contact with the metal, or rust.

Yup. But stupid me, I decided to tip the apple cart and decide to screw it up. This is like the 4-5th time i've used RS. You'd think I'd know better.  Rolling Eyes

Didn't make it out. We started later than we had hoped to, but it should come out by lunchtime today. Got a bunch of great pointers from Dave last night so it should really speed things up.

Car is starting to fight me a bit. Headers are in and SNUG on the PS. The upsides, is that they DO fit in the car with no header mods. Cut the frame braces, and install. Getting the starter ground/power back on is turning into a real PITA. The other upside is the car is back on all fours. Plugs/wires/cap, throttle body and belt drive is all thats left. Maybe tomorrow we'll be turn key.

Not sure if this helps, but here they are in the car. They sit JUST below the stock x-member. I might not even run the LT1 style since I won't be getting more lower.

Spend some extra time while youre under there making sure there's no wiring thats gonna creep to the header tube
You dont want to have to worry once you turn the key.
I always go over all the O2 /starter/sensor / plugs one last time
Cuz you know once its running, youre NOT going back under just for shyts

PS: I dont see a new crossmenber.. Very Happy

Yeah, I found a couple trouble spots already. Going over to Advance tomorrow to get some heat tape to route some wires/cover some sensors. Already ran the starter power up and away from the PS header.

Not sure if I'm going to get that X-member in yet. I actually get good clearance with these, plus the stocker may be fused in via the Rust weld method.  Laughing

If you scrap your stock x-member let me know. I might need it for "parts".

We had a problem with my old mans '83 c10. The starter was so close to the header that the heat cooked it once a month.
Installed a heat shield and never had a problem again.

I'd move the temp sensor elsewhere... Or at least go get a small straight section of M to F adapter to push the sensor out away from the block and header.

Yeah, I bought a starter blanket before this project even started. Not taking the risk.

I'm going to see if the tape works, if not I might rig up some sort of shield, there really isnt anywhere else to route the sensor where it would still work/ not be near the headers.

PS, you picking up those rims soon?  Razz

I've had headers literally 1/16"-layin right on it- away from the passenger head temp sensor with no problems with the heat sleeve stuff.

Still not done. Went to A-zone, rented a nice harmonic balancer install tool. Tool is now stuck in the crank. What the f**k.  Shocked Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad Between this and those shit ass MSD wires. I've just about had it. NEVER doing this again.
