Two more weeks til the wagon comes home Arrow

Took a ride out to Pawtucket to see mp775 and finally pick up those 454SS rims I bought off Bill. They look really good. Little bit of polish and some Firehawks strapped to them and they'll be Daytona ready. Just need to find a lugnut with the external threads that will hold the plastic retainers for the centercaps.

Also, took my bro's outback to pick them up. Maybe Crovo is onto something Laughing

Ebay for the lugnuts and covers. I keep forgetting what the exact numbers are for them! I want to get another set and another set of caps too, if I ever ran steel wheels on the green SS.

I have the covers, just need the lugs. What car/truck do I search for? Anthony told me way back when the S-10 uses the same thread pitch as the B cars. Will those hold the ss caps?

IIRC, they are "S10 lugs", but the lug caps that come factory with the C1500 centers do not work with the lugs, they are way too big on the inside. You have to use "Corvette" lug covers that will screw on. They came on something else too but I forget what. The outside diameter of those is smaller than the original caps, but they still hold the covers on perfectly tight. Steve did this too, but I think he actually made some special caps for his application.

So I need S-10 lugs and Corvette caps?

TO ROCKAUTO!

Are these the correct caps?

The lugs I got were 12mm x 1.5 for the pitch, so I guess that's S10, as well as Camaro and some others?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-LUG-NUTS-FOR-CHEVY-S-10-CAMARO-OEM-WHEELS-DOUBLE-THREAD-STYLE-12MM1-5-/200750048023?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ebda2a317&vxp=mtr

They're like those, but I paid less than that I'm fairly sure...

The caps I got are these kind, I'm 99 percent sure these are them. I can't find the seller I got mine from.

The covers you need have a ridge going around them, that ridge holds the caps on the wheel!

Thanks Matt. RA has the lugs for $0.87 each new so i'll probably buy those.

Edit

Looking for "Camaro lug nuts" on ebay turns up a factory p/n for the plastic caps. RA has those, $0.37 each. Score cheers

Nice! What were the numbahs? I'm pissed because when I first bought all the parts to put that setup together, there were numerous sets of 20 lugs, 20 caps, etc, all on eBay, in black, chrome, all sorts of stuff. It seems like there's way less now. It took me like 15-20 minutes just to scrape those damned links together!

The S-10 lug nuts are DORMAN Part # 611109

The Camaro caps (black in color) are DORMAN Part # 611621

20 lugs and caps will run about $42 shipped. Not bad I guess.

Fedex dood just dropped off the caps and lugs. Matt, you're right. The caps fit right on there. Also, the ones from Rock Auto are grey. Not black. I think I have an extra wheel stud in my tool box so I'm gonna check the lugnuts when I get home. But they look pretty close. Arrow

My whale be home! Got it out of storage this morning. Hooked up the battery, started on the first click cheers Little dusty from sitting inside, but no issues to speak of.

Drove it about 15 miles to stretch its legs a bit. Man I missed this car. Started installing my new Polk front speakers. Tomorrow I'm going to finish those and then move to the new headlights. Arrow

Lol. I need to go get some Plasti-Dip for the air dams Laughing

I also finished installing the new front speakers today. I never want to pull those door panels off again. It was horrible, those things are like friggin glass! Rolling Eyes Also, the Dorman panel clips suck out loud. They shatter if you breathe on them wrong. Took a package of 15 to get the two front doors done. Rolling Eyes

Speakers installed, had to mod the speaker housing a bit to fit the stock boxes

All the broken Dorman clips

Also, installed those lower door panel lights that came in the OCC and RM. Plugs were already on the door harness Arrow

Oh, and installed my new smoke headlights. I like them but you can tell they're chinese knock offs. Missing the lock ring for the passenger side headlight, and the turn signal sockets are incorrect Rolling Eyes

Was also going to install my FW horns. But it turns out the ones I bought off someone were the stock horns... Suspect Surprised

I like those headlights too..I'm thinking of getting a pair of the clear kind for the SS...but I like the stock corners better. Laughing

Dude, that's good to know about the courtesy lamp on the door! I wonder if I could have done that in the white Caprice...maybe it'll be mine again...ha.

I need to fix the pass. side one in the SS, there's no wires or bulb behind the lens when you pop it off so I need to pull the panel, it probably fell down inside.

My brothers sedan had them stock, my *guess* is all b's with power windows/locks have the wires. The plug is fastened to the door near the armrest.

Those lights look good! Get some HID's in there though or they'll be worse output than the stock lights!

How do those speakers sound?

Coming along! Very Happy

Thanks. Minus the missing clip and wonky turn signal socket, they're pretty well built. Not bad for $110. I'll have to drive with them at night, but when I was aiming them tonight around 6:30 they put out about as much light as the stockers. I wasn't really a fan of HID's I had before I did these. Might try a different eBay kit.

I think they're out of a Caprice. At least, thats what the ones in my bros car looked like.

And yeah, orange/white plug on the door.

Those lights look good on that thing, did you get the ones with the recycled bicycle reflector on the corner like I did? And yeah, those sockets a bitch, nothing like having to notch them out to fit right out of the box Surprised

FWIW, my 9C1 had those courtesy light sockets in the door too, made that mod too damn easy.

The wagon made it down to Daytona and back without issue. Well, I didn't break down. I did discover an issue. I have a hole in my wheel well which lead to a puddle in the back seat Shocked

Now that the outside is done, I'm starting to toy with finally doing a motor swap. But not sure where I really want to go with that. Don't really want to go LS only because that would mostly be out of my budget. I was thinking rebuilt 350 with some Vortec heads, LT1 9C1 cam and a nice pair of headers. Nothing too crazy, just with a little more punch.

Some new pics:

That is one sweet friggin wagon, if I do say so myself...

...and I DO!

Great job so far man. I knew you'd get it there.

I see the chrome bumperettes. What happens to the setina? Is it up for grabs? It's a lot closer than mine is (Alabama)

Great job so far man. I knew you'd get it there.

It looks sweeeeeeet! Probably best without the setina.

No worries man.

This looks like a completely different ride.

You've got me anxious to paint mine now with the mismatched hood/bumper and original police paint job coming through. Dang

Gears are turning with a new motor cheers

The person I stored the wagon with has a line on a 4 bolt truck motor that I can apparently have for wicked cheap. I'm going to start looking into what it's going to take to get that into the wagon. So for now that'll probably be next winters project. Get the motor on a stand, build it and next spring drop it in.

Can you specify EXACTLY what your going for in a motor?
HP?...torque?...is it going to run with your existing drivetrain?..etc..etc...

I'd recommend buying a running motor (whatever configuration your going with) & installing it
You WILL spend ALOT of unrecoverable $ building one.
Also, unless your planning on unusual usage of the wagon, you'll never realize a built motors potential.
Obviously my 0.02 & totally ignore this if your fully committed to your plan.
Really though.....be penny wise not dollar foolish

I'm going with a 350 from my era since it'll bolt to my drivetrain. Probably keep it computer controlled since all the wiring is there. It's probably just going to be a stocker minus an idea i've been toying with to put in some Vortec heads if I can find some cheap. And maybe a different cam. But thats it. But this all happened within the past 3 days so nothing is even close to set in stone.

Thats pretty much the rationale. I want to be able to say, even once, that I built a motor. Laughing

How many miles on your motor? If all you're doing is heads/cam there's really no need to take your perfectly good motor out and replace it with the same thing. Heads/cam can be done in a day with the motor still in the car.
