PostSubject: My Wagon Project Thread (Again...)   Wed Mar 30, 2011 8:57 pm

So its that time of the year again. Time to start modding the wagon again. Now that its finally up and running again, I can focus on all the stuff I want to do. My first goal is getting the new quarters welded in and getting the car painted. I'm toying with two ideas. Both are two tone. Also, with painting the car I'm thinking of pulling all the stainless trim and doing a small pinstripe in its place around the car.

This one, which I found was a factory option. I like this one because it would match the interior and tie the car together:

Or this one. Tim suggested it last year. I like this one a lot too as it would match the rims that I'm toying with as well:

Rims that I'm thinking about:

With these center caps (with Chevy logos added):

Also, either before or after paint I need to do new shocks and springs. I want to raise it up a bit and am going to go with the following as per some suggestions on Longroof. Thoughts?

Spring:

Caprice trim wont fit the Roadmaster. And I mean all the trim around where the woodgrain was. Wink

Bump. Installed new rear shocks and springs today. Ok, well my father taught me how and I took notes and had a socket thrown at me for being... well myself. Anyways! I used Moog CC623 variable rate springs and Gabriel Ultra shocks. I also used Bill Harper's shock mounts. Those things are a lifesaver! The car rides awesome now. Added about an inch and a half of height in the back and really firmed it up, but still very smooth handling.

The funny thing about those springs is different brands are assigned to the same springs, lol. The Moog and TRW cargo coils come in the same box and have the same number, just a different brand sticker slapped over where the barcode is. I have a spare set of the same ones! Laughing

I might put them in my Caprice, when I fill the gas tank it sags a little out back and I don't like how it handles when that weight is back there, but I kinda don't want to raise it out back either.

Lol, Adavnce was selling the TRW ones but they were more expensive Laughing I wouldn't worry about raising the car too much. Like I said, I got about an inch and a half, but I figure its the fact they're a stonger spring coupled with the fact my old ones were shot/ sagging. The car looks like how it "should" sit.

Mega bump!

Ok, now that the wagon is FINALLY running again and I'm starting to get some extra coin in my pocket. I can finally "finish" my wagon. Windows were tinted about a month ago so thats done.

Right now, its lined up to go to the body shop to have the studs and holes from the trim sanded and filled. He's also going to fix both my quarters and paint everything. cheers. After the bodywork is done I'm going to pull the nasty peeling belt trim. Next, Indigo kindly offered to install my 9C1 cluster so that'll get done too. Also going to reskin the rear seat with the vinyl covers I have from a 95 9C1. After that the interior will be "done.

Come spring I'm going to have it totally repainted and am toying with two sizes of "chrome" piping to give the car a little color.

Personally, I like the smaller of the two.

And to finish the car off I am going to do body color matched 15x8 truck rally rims.

My inspiration for my car came from this Chevelle wagon I saw for sale a couple months ago.

Go with the smaller trim. Looks much better. Also I just pulled the side molding trim off my wagon... Get a can of adhesive remover, prep all, or goo gone. It took forever to get the one off the rear quarter. adhesive was nasty! You let me know when your ready on that gauge.

Me too. It also curves and cuts easier to match the corner markers.

Got some Goo Gone, Adhesive Remover and a heat gun. The belt trim's days are numbered. Laughing

Winter bump...

Few changes and updates. Haven't been able to get to the body shop yet for a handful of reasons... hopefully before the new year that'll finally get done. Going to order my new front end parts from Proforged and install them come spring. Also going to decide what I want to do with those 15x8 rims I got from Glen. The paint on them are pretty good. But I'm kinda thinking body color matched with the 9C1 caps and trim rings... Also, the rear end is really starting to howl so need to source a good one to do a swap. May call the JY tomorrow that has that '93 Roadmaster with the 3:23 posi to see what they want for the whole drivetrain.

Did a small project today. Steve made a good point in noting that I should cover all my trim holes til I get to the body shop, so thanks to a heat gun and some 3M trim tape....

You could also call it regret....

He's still on the car, btw. Arrow

In other news, ordered my new front end goodies. Going to be installed in a couple weeks. Also, i'm (hopefully) getting the 2:93 rear end out of the Marshmallow to replace my quickly dying 3:23 one. Eventually I'll R&R it and drop it back in.

Not to azz up your thread, but you were wondering why you couldnt siphon well.
Heres whats installed inside the gas fill pipe (but in the tank, not the pipe)
When you pump gas the ball moves towards the center of the tank letting gas in
If you tip the tank towards the filler (or if a gas wave goes that way) the ball plugs the flow.
The tongue like pc goes up & over / into the baffle.
This is also why you screw up your sender when jamming a siphon in there.
Just thought I'd share as I just yanked this outta the leaky tank to show you.

Haha, yeah I learned that was in there when I forced the siphon thru so hard the little ball dropped (haha ball dropped) into the tank. Now I can siphon easily. I just hope the car doesn't roll over. Laughing

Just make sure to always tighten the cap.
We're pretty much conditioned to do that anyway to avoid that emissions trouble code
You must get pretty good kick back when filling at the pump?
HA ha ha...I said fill....oh wait..

sdstick wrote:

Ha, actually, I just took it for the first fill up since the ball fell out and it fills without issue. Maybe I don't need the ball (huh huh, ball)

Anyways... back to the car

Car is running good again. So no mechanical stuff to deal with anymore.

I've settled on tires. Going to go with Indy Firehawks in 235/70 (if I can find em) on body color matched 15x8's with rings.

Body work is lined up for the spring, going to get the studs filled and sanded. Come to find out, guy at work sprays cars under the table and has a homebrew booth in his garage so he's going to do that for me for a decent price. He does good work too. Saw a couple cars he redid.

Last thing on the exterior will be to pull the ratty belt trim and replace with the black piping I posted awhile back.

Interior is just about done, just need to get out to Ironfistdog's and do the cluster swap and reskin the rear seat to vinyl.

Also going to put in 4 tone Fleewood horns and cornering markers.

I know you live kind of far, but if you want to come out this way when you need tires I can cut you a good deal. I can also set you up with my Wareham location if you don't want to drive the extra 30 mins to Hyannis.

Got bored last night and wanted to see what my truck rallys would look like painted factory white. So I dug out a beat up N97 (close enough...) and sprayed it using some Duplicolor. Ignore the overspray, and shitty trim ring. This is just a mock up. Thoughts?

Looks good, well, could look better with out the over spray as you mentioned. Not bad. I'd go with it. Plus let the jack down. makes a big difference I bet. Right now the over spray reminds me of 1/2 the Hondas and Acuras the kids drove to UTI in Norwood lol.

I'd have the let the jack down, but the valve stem is shot and the tire deflated as soon as I lowered it Laughing

Wasn't sure if the silver would work with the white paint and black windows/ trim.

Haha, thanks. I am. Just didn't want to ruin the decent paint that was already on the 15x8's if the white looked like shit.

Indeed. But, like I said, the rims were already black and in good shape so if I didn't like the white I didn't want to ruin the paint.

Pretty much. But i've decided i'm not going to two tone the paint. I figure with the black pillars and dark windows its already pretty much two toned.

Since uncle sam is being gracious enough to send me a refund this year, things are actually going to happen with the wagon cheers

Talked to Tim today. Firehawks in 235/70 are ordered. Painting my 15x8's now. Going to finish my front end work and then head out and get those bad boys mounted.

Also, going to order the paint to respray the car for mid April. Also going to order some SEM Rust Shield for the frame and floors.

Oh. And I'm going to try out the blazer overhead console Brian gave me. Picking up a junk headliner from Dave and going to reskin it in gray suede and install it.

Cant wait to see them wrapped up and on the wagon lowered... . They look great!

Get some decals with white bowties to replace those factory 9C1 ones. I can help you out with that.

Order them in white. The measurement is 2.5". make sure you say that in the comments section at check out as well as send him a message. Very helpful guy. Good communication. he even emailed me to get measurements of another center cap for a customer since I have all kinds. The customer spoke zero english. All in all it worked out great.

Went down to the Cape today to see Tim. Got my Firehawks mounted. And I am in freaking LOVE. Not only do those tires ride amazing they look sooo good if I do say so myself. I now want to lower the front end a bit. Maybe some cut 9C1 springs.... Arrow Gonna get some more pics tomorrow in the sun after I wash the cah.
