I saw a 70 something GMC with one today and not gunna lie I liked it, and I think it may not look to shabby on the RMS if done right, and I don't mind the A pillar pods but I don't really need three little guages and don't NEED a tach ( the HVAC system can display one) but it would nice to see RPM when I'm cruising would nice. maybe it'll be a real betch to install? What do you guys think?

I remember the hood mounted tachs from 60's and 70's GTO's & Firebirds. They were pretty sharp!

easy enough to wire
if you get a sunpro or like, it ususally has 4 wires
RED-Ingintion power
WHITE- + for tach back light
BLACK- Ground
GREEN- Tach signal

splice the red to an ignition source or tuck into a fuse in the panel that only comes on with key on
find the wire that get 12v when the light switch is turned/pulled on splice the white wire here,
black goes to any ground
and the green goes to pin 13 in the RED connector of the pcm (caprice, i assume its the same for roadmaster too)

you could probably pull the wires through where the windshield sprayer hose come up through. and mount where you like it

So I was thinking getting one like this
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Hood+Tach+for+Buick&view=detail&id=42AD2545D33B346DDD16096F7EB7682A15445E7E&first=1&FORM=IDFRIR
I think its from a late 60s early 70s GSX and I'll probably snag it from...
Here

When I get it I'll have to figure out the wiring it seems relatively striaght forward

That looks sweet.
I couldnt picture it before you posted.
Havent seen one in a long time.
Better set something on the hood first to make sure your ok with it.
Wiring is always the simple part, especially because you dont have to go into the cabin.

yea I took an old fake scoop my friend had and put it on, right now the registration sticker blocks the view of were I'd like it to be But I think if I line it up at like around were the hood creases it should look pretty thrifty. I looked at the pontiac one but I saw the one that says buick on it and like that alot more, I have to go into to have a mirror paint matched any ways so I might as well bring that and have it painted too when I get it... could be awhile though they aren't dirt cheap.
